There's a catch somewhere. They're going to blindfold you and steal your shoes, like that Kids In the Hall skit.

A good idea is to google their company name with +scam or +ripoff.

I'd also look up www.ripoffreport.com and punch in the company name.

Sounds like the same type of company that I did secret shopping for. I wouldn't be surprised if they're actually connected. I had no problems at all with the secret shopping job. No rip offs or anything. Do what Tenbats said. As long as you don't see any legitimate complaints, go for it.

Keep in mind I said legit complaints. You can find people bitching about anything under the sun.

I work in the insurance restoration feild. Independant insurance adjusters are "hired guns" for insurance co's that are swamped with claims, find a claim is beyond the expertise of their in-house adjusters, the insured may be an ass and the claims people simply don't want to deal with them, or even just when staff are on holidays. This company is using this position to produce a scope of work, some-one in their office will probably develop an estimate using Exactimate or some other estimate software. Once they've developed an amount they can offer a settlement. A friend of mine did this in Florida for a couple years after all the storms. He was paid for each inspection he did. Of course the trick is to be competent to do evaluations quickly and accurately, obviously the more you do in a day the more dough you get........, If you have some construction expertise or IICRC training you'll be in a better position to move quicker ....

We pay $35.00 per inspection.

Volume may range from 5 to 10 claims a
month or 3 claims a week.

10 claims a month X $35 an inspection = $350.00 a MONTH ($87 a week...!!)

Is this worth it to you even if it was legit?

Even assuming everything seems ok, maybe also consider;

-the pay you claimed doesn't include your expenses-a 2 hour drive somewhere and back quickly chews up , you end up with ALL kinds of additional incidental expenses., is their milage reimbursement really covering full gaz, car depreciation, insurance,.....if it takes you 1.5 hours to reach an inspection +1.5 hrs to get back + half hour there...how many are you really going to do? (another caution: these "earn as much as you work" offers sometimes require a very full time effort to approach their top-earner estimates.

-safety: how do you REALLY know if a damaged roof, flooded basement is safe?--those 2 alone are the cause of many, many injuries etc....and i assume you will only be going on damaged roofs ...what is YOUR insurance?

- this sounds like it may be a typical service industry outsourced "field" job, more pay than working at the mall, but you will put in time and effort (+no mall babes).....

i can't tell from your message what your exact reason for seeking this job is, but on the positive side, the insurance industry is a very stable, good middle management, white collar opp's, with opp for advancement in longer term.....so if you are looking for entry level position, THEN maybe worth it.

Give it a shot. the only thing you have to lose is your freedom as they drag you into their creepy cult.

I guess as long as they are not asking for some kind of cash upfront from you. The most you can lose is time.
