I've been hooked on men's singles this year... for obvious reasons.

Anyone else been keeping up? Its going to be interesting if Agassi wins the tourney considering this is the last harrah for that mofo.

I don't follow tennis at all, but I was flipping around and noticed the Agassi match was on so I felt strangely obligated to watch. I actually found it pretty entertaining, considering it could have been his last match, his opponent started coming back strong late in the match, and the crowd was really into it.

Am I now a tennis fan? NO. But that was a great match.

I got into tennis because of my best friend in hs's uncles are both ATP players... and hot.

Plus I spent some time at my old college playing and found I really enjoy playing the game besides just watching.

At the bar last night they were showing Agassi's match. It was so bizzare, as the night went on and the match progressed everyone in the bar started to root loudly for Agassi. After match point the whole place went crazy. I haven't watched tennis in about 6-8 years but last night was truly something special.

As a matter of fact, Bill Simmons actually led off his article today talking about last night's match:

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/060901

I went to the US Open a few years ago and got hooked on it. Now I burn up a vacation day and go to a day session each year. I'll be going to the day session this Thursday to see a men's semi-final match and the mixed doubles final. I think Agassi will be done by then. He'll play tough but I don't think he has that much left. It'll probably be another Federer-Nadal final although I'd like to see Blake make a good run.

I spent the whole day there today. It was incredible. There is no other sporting event where you can sit less than 15 feet away from the athletes. I coudlnt afford an ASHE Ticket so i went with a grounds pass and saw all the matches on the surrounding courts, armstrong, grandstand. I particularly enjoyed watching Shahar Peer come back from 1-5 in the 3rd to win the match. She has a very poor serve - her second serve is tapped in, so i doubt she will do well against Henin-Hardenne.

Carlos Moya looked strong, and i got to see Martina and Bryan in mixed doubles. Saw Roddick hitting with Connors (his coach) on a side court. If aggasi and Roddick win their next match, they will meet in the semis! Roddick vs Aggasi - how great a match is that?

The weather was cool and cloudy - perfect for tennis watching, and my 6 dollar hot dog was scrumptious.

Great great stuff. Rain tonight, most likely rain out tommorow. So Sunday Monday matches will be plentiful for anyone heading out to the matches.

I've followed Agassi since he was a long-haired las Vegas hot shot back in the mid 80's. My brother, who is also an avid tennis fan was always a Sampras, Chang and Courier fan. He never believed in Agassi because of his early immaturity, but I always stuck by him. He has become a great player as well as a great citizen. Needless to say I am rooting very hard for him in this tournament. It is causing me some very tired work days as I have stayed up until the very end of these first two matches, but it has been well worth it. It almost reminds me of Connors' run in the Open in '91 when he finally lost to Courier in the semifinals at the age of 39. I hope Andre can last that long (or longer), but I'll be watching every minute he is on the court in this tournament. He may be the last great charismatic Men's player we'll see for quite a while for the U.S. I like Roddick, but so far I don't think he's got what it takes to be a great champion. Now that he has Connors as a coach maybe that will change.

If anyone is interested in watching fantastic men's tennis, turn on USA right now for the Federer-Blake match.

I think I'm going to have a heart attack before its over.

It's infinitely better than this sorry NFL game. There aren't many worse ways to open up a season than these two teams.
federer is great and all but i dont particularly like when one guy or one team dominates a sport, hopefully the NEW andy roddick can provide some competition, nadal has shown he up to the task at some events, especially the clay courts but maybe in a few more years he can get better at the gras courts

I like Sharapova over Kournikova for the following reasons:

1. She's "classier" looking somehow.

2. Unlike Kournikova, she can actually play tennis

3. She's not batshit insane in that distinctly Russian way like Kournikova is.

4. Better ass.

davydenko had his chances today against federer and really blew his chance in the second set when he could have won and tied it a 1-1 and even in the third set he had many opportunities but just couldnt seal the deal

hopefully we get roddick vs federer

I'm so happy Mauresmo lost. I loathe her. And Roger Federer too.

She also hates the US and has stated so on previous occasions. When Martina Hingis made a statement to the effect that Mauresmo looks like a man, Mauresmo immediately accused her of being a homophobe. Her sexuality has nothing to do with her physical appearance. This is why I hate her.

The OPEN was great this year. It had everything. Agassi semtimentality, hot women who can play the game, and whitnessing the greatest player to ever play the game.

I mean of course Maria Sharapova who looked fabulous and showed amazing poise and class for a 19 yr old!

Now Roger Federer, is the greatest player to grace Tennis ever. I dont root for him, i root for Americans, but i respect his skills. I Never rooted for Michael Jordan but i always loved watching him on the court. Federer is a magician on the court. Roddick, and Blake before him, played well enough to probably have beaten anyone else.

I cant see anyone in the near future beating Federer. He will only bear himself, either by injury or by getting bored and leaving the game.

Next year im buying tickets in June, im done with craigslist trolling the day before matches.
