...when you clang your glass the bride and groom are supposed to kiss?

When did that tradition start? I seriously would like to know.

My understanding is the clinking of glasses was to chase away evil spirits (I know this part is true). Eventually the kiss was added to "seal the deal" and show that love would triumph over adversity/evil (I am not entirely sure about this part).

That explanation is completely paraphrased and I don't have any "proof," but I had a similar discussion when I got married the first time.

EDIT: To clarify, there is proof regarding the "evil spirits" part - Google can give you that info - but not the "love triumphs over evil" part. That might be made up.

it dates back to pre-christian traditions where there was a more profound connection between fertility of the harvest (grapes/olives), and fertility of the bride. that's also why a glass is broken at a jewish wedding.

sounds believable

There are many spiritual superstitions
surrounding weddings. The bridal bouquet was at first a satchel of
herbs meant to protect the bride from evil spirits. Only later did the
satchel become a bouquet of flowers. Clinking of glasses during the
reception was also believed to keep evil spirits from harming the new
marriage; it was believed the spirits didn't like boisterous noise.

more here

Why is it at weddings...when you clang your glass the bride and groom are supposed to kiss?

Because too often people would just drunkenly shout out "HEY! PLANT ONE ON THAT HOSEBEAST!"

it is an old italian tradition. the claged is supposed to remind the bride to try and cut off her grooms balls. the kiss is used as a mean of distraction. in some societies, the kiss is a means of sucking the life out of the groom, slowly and over time.

It's always hard to tell the truth about older traditions like this.

For example, I'd always heard that weddings were a good place to get laid. But having been a groom twice, I can tell you that so far it's only worked 50% of the time for me.

And if you have to have them at the wedding, call them something more discreet, like "Ladies in waiting".
