How about when the Pats went for it on 4th down. OBVIOUSLY didn't get it. Then the ref calls first down without even measuring? Under review - THEY UPHOLD IT!

The refs did all they could to hand the Pats the game. Luckily justice prevailed and Brady threw a pick.

I think he's very talented, but it's unfortunate he's gotta still get his sea legs when the team can potentially roll into the big game. The guy's only thrown something like 15-16 games at this point and this is his first full season thus far, so I think he'll get over the major mistakes eventually. Problem is, they need to try and win big this year, so if he absolutely tanks it in NY this game, I can definitely see them putting Griese in there the next week. But I think Rex needs to bomb like he did in Arizona for that to happen.

Worst thing is that I have a meeting for work tomorrow night at 9 PM, so I'm royally pissed about that.

The trade is already huge for the Bolts but could you imagine if they had Usi? Holy Fuck! Then again, then SD may not have drafted the likes of Merriman or Castillo on D if they did get him to help the D. It's all speculation but a great move to go after him at that time and an even better move to hold onto him.

Meh. Tough 3 week roadtrip where they went 2 for 3 in NY and then only lost 13-17 to a damn good team at their home field with a 3-time Super Bowl QB. I've seen a LOT worse. Both teams made some big mistakes and the Pats fought for it harder. Good for them. And don't act like there weren't horribly made/missed calls for both teams.

At best, he's going to keep you from losing, but he's not going to win you a game, if that makes any sense. He's a bandage QB...essentially a better version of Orton. Rex can and will lose you some games...but he will also win them for you. I'd much rather go for the guy who has a shot at winning a game than a dude who won't. Rex needs to learn and this season is his learning curve. Sacrificing the future for someone like Brian Griese is retarded, and the Bears know it. Griese is not in.

Any way you cut it they are still 9-2 and lost in NE to a good team. They are in a shit division, have easy schedule, and have more leeway than any other team in the NFC. I still have faith in Rex to pull it all together. Bear down chicago bears!

My favorite part of the game. Watching Tom Brady faking out
Brian Urlacher. That's got to be really hard ot live down for any
linebacker. Espeiclaly since Brady is no Vick when it comes to
running.
If we still had Bledsoe. Drew would still be standing there like a

If Urlacher just did his job halfway right there it would have forced the Pats to kick with around 4-5 minutes left in the game. And I wasn't surprised to see Brady all pumped up after that play...you will not see something like that happen too often with a guy like Urlacher. Brady basically ducked at just the right time in front of a firing squad using massive yet oddly fast bullets.

If you lived in Ohio or Maryland you could watch the game. I'm shocked it's not on TV after all the hooplah about Thursday Night Foootball. It's just an all around clusterfuck from the announcers up to the managers & marketing people.

Houshmandzadeh is making up for his 4th quarter meltdown from the last Ravens game. He is having a MONSTER game. He is catching EVERYTHING thrown at him, including a fleaflicker for a TD.

Why is it called a fleaflicker? I think I used to know. Now I have to look it up...

DJEvelEd

FYI:

John Heisman invented the fleaflicker.

His fleaflicker is single handedly responsible for getting Joe Theisman in the broadcast booth. (well... LT and a bunch of cocaine contributed too)

Maybe we should rethink if the flea flicker should have ever been invented. Have you ever heard Joe Theisman announce? YEESH!

Coach Heisman told a player once "You can't play today because you haven't got your grades up to par." The player looked up at him and said, 'Coach, don't you know that the sportswriters call this toe on my right foot the million-dollar toe?' Coach Heisman snapped back right quick and said, "What good is it if you only have a fifteen-cent head?"

Another favorite Heisman story was the speech he used to make before a season began. Heisman would face his recruits holding a football. "What is it?" he would sharply ask. Then he would tell his players, "a football was a prolate spheroid, an elongated sphere-in which the outer leather casing is drawn up tightly over a somewhat smaller rubber tubing." Then after a long pause he would say, "better to have died as a small boy than to fumble this football."

I think you only bench Grossman if you're coming up on the last 2 games before the playoffs and he's shown no improvement. With the relatively cake schedule they have the rest of the year, the Bears need to take advantage of their lead and work Grossman the next 2 games to see if there's any hope he can turn it around. I'm sure there are other feelings on this, but I believe it was the right move and the two of them are friends. Believe it or not, Tuna didn't burn this bridge as Payton just left pretty much running the Cowboy offense last year. They don't have an O cord in big D, but he was pretty much it. So when they got the ball they did the same and ended the game that way. They have a great chance meeting again in the playoffs too.

I'm very glad that they won and that I was wrong in my negativity. I'm still wary about the playoffs, but that's mostly due to their quick exits in 2001 and last year. As with tonight, I'd love to be proved wrong.

Rex looked a LOT better...mixed it up much more, as he needed to. Didn't panic, stayed in control and zeroed in on who he needed to hit. That 2nd TD pass couldn't have been more perfect.

I hope that the Bears can work something out with Briggs for next year...I had been assuming he would be gone, but if the franchise thing works out, awesome.

Devin Hester...wow. That kid is incredible. It's electric every time he gets the ball. Even when he doesn't score he's grabbing some serious yards.

Defense was a little too porous tonight at time...allowed some huge drives for the Rams. I think a lot of that was the loss of Tommie Harris, and hopefully they can adjust with the easy schedule they have the rest of the season. The lack of turnovers generated by the Bears was a little unusual.

Clinched the playoff bye week...GO BEARS!

That's such a crap argument. I'm not gonna pretend that they've had the toughest schedule, but it is also football...you don't just "accidentally" end up being 11-2. As I've shown, I'm the first to point out that this team has some serious flaws that could keep them from the Super Bowl, but they're pretty far from being a bad or even average team. They're at least a very good team, period. Getting as many wins as they have is tough in football, no matter what your schedule is. You have to go on the road, deal with injuries, deal with imploding players a la Grossman...nothing is easy in this sport.

Don't gripe because they showed up on a tough roadtrip and won at the Meadowlands 2 weeks in a row with an unsure quarterback. They're the 1st team to do that in almost 10 years. That alone right there is damn impressive. The Seahawks are still a damn good team without Alexander, so it's not like that game was a breeze, and they came out and dominated them. They beat the Giants on the road with an unsteady quarterback and some serious injuries...apparently the Giants can use things like that as an excuse when they lose but the Bears get zero credit when they win despite those factors. Yeah, the game against the Jets was low-scoring, but they still won 10-0...a shutout! On the road! At the Meadowlands for the 2nd week in a row with the same troubled QB! Then they barely lose by 4 to the Patriots at the tail end of that same tough roadtrip.

Do they get ANY credit from guys like you? Or is there an excuse for every victory they've had this season? How about last year? How many years in a row would they need to having winning season like this before they're a "legit" team in your eyes? Football is played game by game...anything can happen with each game. That's one of the things that makes people have such passion over it. Look at the dramatic upsets we just had this past weekend. ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN. Winning 11 games out of 13 is tough to do and the mark of a good team, no matter how you try to spin it.

You can't seriously think this is a bad team. Like I've said, I myself am very worried that the Grossman situation and/or the defensive injuries might lead to a exit in the playoffs, so they're pretty fucking far from perfect, but to say that they're a bad team is absurd.

wasnt saying that they're a bad team just a good or very good team with an awesome record that doesnt reflect what they really are

yeh they won 11 out of 13 but that doesnt matter in the playoffs, and their insufficiencies will be exposed and the great record like last year and 01 will prove that it meant nothing

The point brought up by cj is valid in my book and it's not like the "experts" on radio and tv alike haven't brought it up over the last two seasons. I guess most people just won't respect a team as a huge SP threat until they win some big games and or show ability in the playoffs. Which is the reason this year is wide open in my mind with Chicago being a top team in the NFC with no recent history of big wins or playoff ability. The Chargers, a favorite in the AFC, have Marty as a coach and we all know his playoff history. He sits and leads and losses close but hardly ever wins in games his teams could have dominated. I'm really concerned "Martyball" will return in full force in the playoffs. Does anyone really fear Baltimore or the wild-card teams in the NFC? Can NE win with this team? Will NO be able to keep it up and win in the playoffs where they have no history and a rookie coach? And with the run d that Indy and Cincy have, can they really make it through multiple road games (if Indy doesn't get the bye or home-field)?

Overall, it really is wide open as the league has been for the last few years now. Personally I love it and can't wait. My dream matchup would be SD vs. NO but of course that's a little myopic. The only thing I know for sure is that it'll be great to watch.

His points are vaild and I've been saying them for a while now...the Bears have some issues they need to overcome before they can make it to the big game. I'm very nervous due to their recent playoff appearances and I hope they go into it feeling they have something they need to prove. I just didn't like the tone of the initial post as that it's reflective of how a lot of people are dismissing the Bears. Again, no, it's not the toughest schedule...but they had the tough roadtrip and looked pretty damn good on it. A bunch of the teams they've beaten they didn't just beat; they completely destroyed them. Hell, even the Arizona game is something impressive...to come back from that much of a deficit and win it is something special. To win games like they were when their quarterback in the toilet, again, shows something unique about this team. Yes, they need to step it up in the playoffs and they could tank it yet again...but like I said, that's football. Anything can happen in each game.

Now, let's just bask in the glory of how amazing Devin Hester is.

CJ is a smart man. On a sadder note Lamar Hunt passed today. It seemed like everyone had a good thing to say about him, and the chiefs have been my favorite team since i was a baby. God bless.

DALLAS (AP) -- Lamar Hunt, the pro sports visionary who owned the Kansas City Chiefs and came up with the term "Super Bowl," died Wednesday night. He was 74.

Hunt, the son of a famous and wealthy Texas family, died at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas of complications from prostate cancer, Chiefs spokesman Bob Moore said.

Hunt battled cancer for several years and was hospitalized the day before Thanksgiving with a partially collapsed lung. Doctors discovered that the cancer had spread, and Hunt had been under heavy sedation since last week.

"He was a founder. He was the energy, really, that put together half of the league, and then he was the key person in merging the two leagues together," said Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, Hunt's neighbor. "You'd be hard-pressed to find anybody that's made a bigger contribution (to the NFL) than Lamar Hunt."

The son of Texas oilman H.L. Hunt, Lamar Hunt grew up in Dallas and attended a private boys' prep school in Pennsylvania, serving as captain of the football team in his senior year. His love of sports led to his nickname, "Games."

Hunt played football at SMU, but never rose above third string. His modest achievements on the field were dwarfed by his accomplishments as an owner and promoter of teams in professional football, basketball, baseball, tennis, soccer and bowling.

Jones' dancing is too cute and he's slowing down too much for it to be as effective as it needs to be.

I fully recognize that, as some are saying, the Bears' playoff record sucks in the last 15+ years. This year, however, they're going back after being in it last year and have more to prove, with pretty much the same players. The offense actually did damn well last year in that playoff game...it was the defense, like you said, that decided to finally shit the bed. Now their defensive performance against the Rams wasn't all that stellar, but they definitely have a damn good shot. Some dangerous flaws, yes, but if it stays together, they're a serious threat to anyone.

And Spoon, those LT clips kick ass. That guy is having a mind-boggling season...so cool to watch.

It's simple when you break it down like that. I live ball is a live ball and knowing the game is important even if you only play special teams. Binn knew it was live, along with SD's punter. It was a huge play in this game and perhaps Herm should have focussed on the next play more as it was ugly. I've seen that before once or twice and really makes perfect sense.

I'm not sure why they kept saying that. In essence, they may have locked up a home game and a bye, but I'm not even sure that's possible with Indy yet to play, a win away from being only one game back as well. Even NE has 10 wins to SD's 12, so in essence they too can still tie for total wins with 2 to play. I was confused as all hell with both announcers repeatedly saying that.

OK, random Bears post for the day...

As it's been discussed here, and I've agreed on, the Bears are pretty far from a perfect team. They have real flaws that could sink them early in the playoffs. That said, however, how come they get picked apart more than the other "good" teams? Most of this criticism is directed at retarded ESPN...how come I'm not hearing any doom and gloom over the pretty good Saints getting beaten by the Redskins? Are they really that OMG WTF awesome? And what about when the Patriots were completely shut out by the Dolphins? Why is it so serious when the Bears lose to Miami, or "almost" lose to the Cardinals or Rams? Yet when the other good teams loose, with the exception of the Colts, it's just shrugged off? Shit, I keep hearing "experts" on that godforsaken network talking like the Giants have a real shot at the Super Bowl. What the hell? Again, I'm not saying the Bears are some scary awesome team, but the broken record I keep hearing about how they're cruising or "barely beating" certain teams and it's showing off how average they really are is getting really tedious when teams like the Saints or the Patriots or the Cowboys lose to shitty teams and it's no big deal.

I never tagged the Saints the big team in the NFC either. In fact, it's wide open by my account. Yet with the NE loss to Miami can be chalked up to a division game and those almost always play close. Especially due to the fact that some teams just have another's number. Like the division teams vs. the Colts. Still, I'd love to see NO make it to the Super Bowl in the NFC but it's not as big a concern to me as SD in the AFC of course. Right now I just hold my breath every time LDT gets tackled or one of the Shawns on D go diving head first to level someone. Here's to hoping the Bolts get to the playoffs with the team fully healthy and ready to go for their first title. Rivers definitely looked a little off on Sunday, but he did rebound and showed a fierce competitive spirit I love and respect.

Other than Indy, there really hasn't been a team to rave about. Gene Wojciechowski is boring and goes with the flow, Scoop Jackson tells it like it is and has been doing so for a decade now, and Simmons is alright in small doses. I don't know if you were referring to Wojciechowski's opinion piece on how being boring is bad and factor in Tank johnson and you must be a bad team. Yahoo sports does an ok job on writing and stuff, but a serious challenger to espn would be nice.

Mojo, it's like I've been saying: there isn't a damn thing the Bears can prove until that first playoff game. It's just that simple. We've beaten everyone on the schedule, except the Pats in Foxboro, and that was a great game, and we laid a turd against a bipolar Dolphin team. You should try living in New York as a Bears fan. I have to listen to Mike and the Mad Dog run down the Bears all the time. My feeling is, let's get to the playoffs healthy. I'd like to beat the Packers to a fine pulp, and sent Favre back to Mississippi with a bad taste in his mouth, and then wait to see who comes to play. I'm not afraid of anyone in the NFC, and I hope it's Dallas, because I'm gonna love watching my Bears pound the shit out of the most overrated team in the NFL right now.
<> I mean, how the fuck can Romo be a Pro Bowler when he didn't even start half of his team's games? Sheesh

mainly b/c all other possible pro bowl qbs got injured ( mcnabb, hasselback, delhomme) and others shit the bed ( eli, grossman, vick)

most likey it'll be the bears vs dallas or new orleans either way it should be a good nfc championship game
