Hell yeah, THAT'S the spirit!!!
Let's hope Johnson is better tonight than he was in the playoffs last year. He has pitched against the Tigers twice this year and done well, so I think he's capable of having a good game. The bigger issue is the health of his back. It would be great if he good go deep in the game, since a battle of the middle relief is scary. Plus, with Wright going tomorrow, it's a certainty that they'll need someone in the 7th at the latest.

Well, the Yanks better get used to the shadows since FOX has them playing the afternoon game on Saturday while the Mets get the prime time slot.

I guess Bernie Williams hasn't done enough for this franchise to earn a start in the playoffs. Despite his ridiculous numbers against Kenny Rogers and his ability to bat righty with power, the lineup remains exactly the same.
Kevin

They actualy did not start that game to cater to the Yankee with Mussina being 37. Verlander is 23 he could start and stop. Mussina could not. And if they do not bomb Kenny Rogers tonight they do not deserve to do win anything. Kenny Rogers is an AWFUL big game pitcher.

Anyone else remember some of the "Murderers Row" lineups the Yankees used to BEAT on their way to their championships in the late 90's? The Texas Rangers, The Cleveland Indians. Yankees didn't have anything close to that firepower. Actually, the 98 Yankees didn't have a single starter on the All Star team that year.
not sure if it means anything or not but after the game Kenny Rogers acted as if he won the final game of the world series in his final year in the major leagues. i understand beating the Yanks makes you feel good but should it make you feel "that good"? the series is not over.

i got that feeling from leyland on his interview after the first win. he said "people who thought we werent't a playoff team now know we're a playoff team" who the heck ever mentioned they thought detroit wasn't a playoff team?

again just a feel for me.... i guess whatever gets you through

did you see the looks on jeters face tonight? it was kind've priceless...

He hasn't batted that low in a lineup since he was a 20 year old rookie. And he wanted this post season to be his chance to redeem himself with the fans and press, knowing that nobody cares about his regular season #s around here. He has a big ego and sensitive nature and this has to hurt. Some of the beat writers were even saying they feel "sorry" for him. This, about a player who came here as one of the best in the game. But its the right thing to do for the team the way he been tentatively swinging the bat lately.

He came here as such a media darling, the big star craving the big stage to perform on. He was going to set every record in the books by the end of his career and the press would market him and make him a bigger name brand than Pepsi Cola. The next Michael Jordan. Now, since the SI article he took a much needed and long overdue vacation from even talking to the press. The fans all think he's the type of player who hits when you're up or down 6 runs, so his image and credibilty with the fans and public is ruined. Most times I hear a Yankee fan talk about A-Rod, he's a punch line. I saw him interviewed yesterday and looked like a shell of the guy who arrived here 3 years ago. It's a bad relationship, he's miserable here and its best for all involved he agree to be traded.

I wish I could say I'm more upset about this. But this is playing out exactly as I thought it would. Wright gone after 3, over anxious hitters swinging at pitches out of the zone. I thought our last best chance was the 7th inning of last night's game.

The Yanks obviously went in with the game plan of swinging early in the count, which hasn't worked at all. If they have any hope of winning this game, they should go back to what got them here. Taking pitches and working the count.

Cano is could have come up a catcher. He is not the problem. Your biggest problem is, the guy with any shred of heart is Jeter. And as a captain he sucks. Did you want to light a fire under anyones ass. I knew this team was doomed when he left ARod out to dry. Personall I hate the Yankees, but its just sad.

When you score one run in 2 games can you blame any one player? And the market for A-Rod is about as low as it can get right now for someone like him. If you are going to bring in any hardass you gotta stay with A-Rod. If you just bring back Torre then maybe you do have to trade him since, IMO anyway, Torre and Jeter could care less if he sinks or swims.
