I'm a little surprised nobody's started this one yet for this year.

How does everybody think they'll do? I saw the first half of the Jets game the other day and they looked fine in the first quarter especially, except for the reverse that went 60 yards.

Fezticle98

The Skins will be fine, if they can stay healthy. Saunders running the offense should help with some of the clock management issues they had last year and Williams is equally great running the defense.

My main concerns are depth on the O-Line and secondary and the health of Brunell and Portis. Other than that, I expect good things.

El Mudo

They'll be fine...I still won't stop these knuckleheads around here from panicking after every preseason loss

But God help them if they have ANY injuries on the O-Line, or if something happens to Brunell, because I almost got physically ill watching Todd Collins, and Jason Campbell is not ready yet

I dont think the redskins will do much with Briunell at QB. I also think Portis shoulder may be a problem all year. I think with the east as tough as it is, the division may go to the giants or cowboys and whichever one doesnt win the division the other will be the wild card. I hope the redskins can make a run but Brunell at his age scares me a little. They do have one thing most teams dont, A GREAT Coach.

El Mudo
08-21-2006, 01:31 PM
Brunell doesn't have to be spectacular, because he doesn't have to carry this team all on his shoulders...All the guy has to do is not turn the ball over...that's it

The D is good enough to keep them in most games, and Portis should be fine...he may start out a little slow, but LaDell Betts looked pretty good during his stretches last year

Then again, its not Joe Gibbs' offense any more

Skins just picked up TJ Duckett in a 3 team deal with Denver and ATL (ATL gets Lelie, Denver gets a 3rd round pick)

Good pick up for them...Duckett adds depth

Nice to have someone who can take a little pressure of Portis' shoulder.

Good move for the skins (i agree on the 3rd round pick being fine), but the question is will he stay healthy. The Falcons get Lelie, another speedy WR who they hope will work with Vick but beyond a bomb for a td a few times this year, he won't be the possession/go to man they desperately need. They have Crumpler sure, but he's not able to carry the load himself and with their Finnerman being out for the year (perhaps less) they are in trouble. There is an off chance Lelie plays way better than he has, but he sure as hell won't be durable. The Falcons needed a wideout no doubt (after missing out on Walker and TO even before the injury), but will Dunn be able to punch it in w/o the Duckett threat lined up with him on the goal line? Will he hold up now that he'll carry the short yardage load a lot more and play almost every down? Sure they'll have another bruiser ready to take the roll, but Duckett was proven with open field speed as well. Now Denver, they got rid of a headache which they had no intention to give the contract he thought he was worth. So I guess a 3rd rounder is at least something decent, but enough compared to Duckett and Lelie?? Not bad, but they probably could have done better.

Got my season tix in the mail last week. Section 421 will be rocking!! Im concerned about Brunell, but no more than I was last year. Living in Jersey its harder to get an evryday feel for the guy, but I think J.Cambell will be a good QB and able to run the offense if Brunell goes down or sucks. With Santana, Randle El and Lloyd we could have the closest thing to "The Posse" that we've seen in a long time. Duckett is a nice goal line addition but Id like to see Ladell "Dickey" Betts more than Duckett. God bless the Washington Redskins. In Gibbs we trust.

I think this marks the beginning of the end for Portis in DC. He's going to start costing too much money and the Redskins under Snyder make a habit of shedding their best and/or most-expensive players after a couple of cheap years--Davis, Bailey, Arrington, etc...

I remember people talking about him when Gibbs first returned, he was a 'Gibbs-type' back, that Gibbs likes big backs. Well, Gibbs has a big back and Portis' cap number can't be getting smaller. Do we seem him in Vikings uniform next year, maybe?

0-4 in the preseason. Does this mean they're going to win the SuperBowl this year?

El Mudo
09-02-2006, 09:48 AM

Its preseason...they held significant guys out of every game
(Archuleta was the only starter to play the entire half in the
Baltimore game for instance), its preseason, Joe Gibbs traditionally
has the team play uber conservative in the preseason, its preseason

I
put no stock into it whatsoever...now if they start the REAL season
0-4...then it will be time to panic, but its WAY to early for that
now...since its preseason

But
unfortunately, since Redskins fans are like the most manic depressive
people on earth, filled with this utter and complete sense of doom
whenever something averse happens, i can feel some panic setting
in

THIS doesnt make sense to me ....but sources say the skins are working HARD for this. Not sure of the role he would play here tho. I think the guy sucks ass now. .Who knows whats up their sleeves.

-

The other thing I hear is that the Skins are HOPING portis remains out - becuz they are in LOVE with newly aquired tj duckett and would like HIM to be the starter. Why does all of this news sound like the skins are poised for a collosal step backwards? HOPING Portis doesnt return???? That is absolutly insane crazy talk. Im no fan of Brunell, but if Portis didnt go over 100yds five weeks in a row last year this team would have been just another dissapointment. Lets see what TJ can do, but assuming we would be better off without Clinton just doesnt make sense to me in any way imaginable.

We stink...Goddamn how we do stink. Portis best watch his shit or Gibbs will freeze him out all year. Doubting that Lil Danny Snyderbrenner will cross Gibbs, Portis would lose on that deal. Snyder has about fucked up one of my life's passions. We pay gazzillions more than needed for players that are just a notch above free agent material. We staedily trade away upcoming draft picks for the likes of Duckett and others. Our starting QB is a feeble, short, weak armed, very good quaterback in his PAST. The O Line looks like swiss cheese. Put in Campbell for God's sake Joe. I feel like I'm gonna vomit.

Here's to the NFC Championship game..Man I was drinkin the Ashburn Kool-Aid really hard then reality struck.

We Stink.

It is Houston, but how fucking important to the Skins offense is Portis or what? I know Betts was doing fine this week too, but Portis is a real threat that opens up the game for the Skins including Betts. But once again it is Houston.

Nice win today. I was nearly inconsolable when the Cowboys got into field goal range. What a turn of events. The Jason Campbell era is delayed for at least one more week. Always sweet to beat the cowboys, no matter what the record.

Yes always nice to beat Dallas. Yes I was wrong about packing it in. May the football gods forgive me. I still think Brunell needs to sit, but Gibbs is loyal to his vets. Almost to a fault is he loyal to his veterans. Next week Philly and I hope Cougar is right about the possibilty of getting to 5-5. Hail Skins.

I am actualy happy because now we have a 3 game lead over everyone in the East.
well its only a 2 game lead giants are 6-2 while dallas and philly are 4-4 unless you're counting the fact that we beat both of them in the event of a tie

didnt see the game but the recap says the skins missed a fg with 3 minutes to go, then dallas had a chance for a game winning fg with 30 seconds left and it was blocked, the skins returned it to the 30 yd line with no time left and there was a 15 yd facemask penalty on the return setting up the game winner with no time left since game cant end on a defensive penalty

What a sorry-ass effort. Sean Taylor is a moron. I never thought I would see a Joe Gibbs coached team with such a lack of discipline. Please, for the love of god, just start Jason Campbell already.

I thought we would see Campbell after the 70yd pickle that Brunnell laid up that went for a TD in the 3rd qtr. Nice to see they gave Duckett cleats and everything. If Gibbs stays past this season he will have to move to Campbell..no if's ands or buts about it..And Gibbs should stay as long as he likes..You dont kick a Hall of Famer to the curb for a bad season or two. But he needs to get off this loyal to the oldtimers at all costs mentality he has..

at 3-6 while the season isn't technically over but it'll be a longshot to make the playoffs considering the eagles and cowboys are both 5-4 and would have to overtake them first before thinking about any other teams in other divisions

so the season while not necessarily lost could be better spent developing campbell like the giants did 2 years ago, benching warner and letting eli get some experience

Redskins are going to sign Nate Clements this offseason according to ESPN. He's had a good year but as far as I'm concerned, for the money he wants vs. the actual on the field product, the Skins can have him.

I just don't see how he can be happy with the defensive effort they've gotten this year from all their "superstars" or from Gregg Williams. The defense certainly has to share some of the responsibility of having the year that they had.

No CJ Archuletta's dirty little secret (cant play pass coverage) only magnifed Shawn Taylor's weakness against the pass. Archuletta got burned more often than not, butted heads with Greg Williams and was demoted to third string. UNfuckingbelievable. It was obvious after Peyton Manning carved him up in week 7 that he could not give the corners over the top help from the safety position. Too small to be a linebacker and too slow to cover deep. 30 million dollars worth of bubkus.

No, I think that Vinny Cerratto, Snyder and Gibbs are all equally to blame. Gibbs needs to go back to doing what he did best. Coaching the football team. They need to hire a true GM not a sycophant like Cerratto. Remember he is the asshat that got the 49ers of the mid to late 90s in so much salary cap trouble with backloaded, unrealistic contracts like the one that forced Jerry Rice across the Bay. As long as Snyder, Cerratto and Gibbs share these duties it will continue to be the overmanaged mess that it is. I have said before I have the utmost respect for St Joseph, but Bobby Bethard and the Late Great Jack Kent Cooke (and later Chaw-lie Cass-a-hlee) were the ones who built the Redskin teams that Gibbs coached to Four Super Bowls, winning three.
