I just upgraded to Limewire Pro...I have used them for years and figured I owed them some bucks....Now,,,,everytime I access Limewire Pro, I get blocked by Norton Virus asking me if I want to let Limewire gain access to my computer...I say yes...and I get blocked again....

Now I know there is a simple answer to this ( and yes...I emailed limewire and I'm still waiting).....can someone tell me what settings I need to for this or do I have to beg as usual??????

you might want to look into the list of programs that Norton is blocking and not blocking...

some programs will have a few listings and you might find two limewires, one that's not blocked and one that is...and then you could select the blocked Limewire and manually unblock...

maybe a long shot but I've freed things up like that before

I have an old NAV so hopefully this will sound right...

launch your Norton Firewall (maybe called Norton Internet Security), which shows up on my pc down near the clock and looks like a green string circle.

Click on "Personal Firewall" and to the right you'll see a blue box at the bottom of which you'll see "Configure" Click on configure.

In the pop up, you'll see a list of tabs up top - one of these should read "Programs" - click on that tab and then at the bottom you'll see a list of the programs that your firewall is blocking or not blocking.

see if you have a Limewire that's blocked, highlight and unblock...

Limewire, and other programs more widely used don't offer you much protection from people like the RIAA, or the MPAA getting your personal information. And it kinda depends on if you are sharing alot of say (hypothetically) MP3's or movies.

I would recomend a program Azureus which Navigates firewalls pretty effortlessly, and offers the protection of making your IP not look complete, or harder to make complete (ex- 65.125.3.40 will look like 65.125.x.xx) Also Nortons firewall is easily dismantled by most Hack tools / scripts available. Limewire and the like networks are filled with viruses, and fake files more than the lesser known (underground if you will) networks.

I would recomend getting ZoneAlarm, to go with your nortons.. its easy to use and will keep you fairly safe. No program/firewall is 100%, at best they are a 75% gaurantee.

i forgot to add that ZoneAlarm also helps hide the last digits in your IP for more safety..

i use:

Norton systemworks (I disable the firewall and autoprotect)

Disable Windows Security center (if you have XP SP2)

Zone Alarm for the Firewall, and disable the Adware monitoring.. its poop.

Once a week i run Ad-Aware, Registry Mechanic, Norton Utilities, and Nortons Fast-Safe cleanup or express clean-up depending on your version.

If you Download alot off of any of the BitTorrent clients you should scan for viruses at least once a month, and i only scan the folder that i Download too, if you find one there.. then do the whole system.

Ok hopefully i have bored you to tears.. or helped you.

chris
