Has anyone on this board gone to Connecticut School of Broadcasting? How was it? Was it worth it? Did they help you get a job in some aspect of broadcasting. Please give me any information you may have. I have always been interested in getting into broadcasting and now that I'm currently not working I figured this would be the perfect time to give it a shot.

Even if you havent gone there any information you may have heard etc would be great. And if your in broadcasting, does your HR department look highly on this school.

Thanks!

In my very limited experience in radio I've noticed its much more about *who* you know than where you studied. It does help, but its favored upon to have the right networking and connections.

Shelle's right. I've only run into one person who went to CSB. The reason why she got into a job in radio is because of the people she knew.

1) She made an impression on me at an event and was eager to get into radio, which led me to offering her an unpaid internship.

2) She was in the right place at the right time when a personality needed a producer. I recommended her for the job, which, in retrospect, was probably the worst mistake I ever made in my radio career. (I would have rather had her on my paid staff, but she still had programming aspirations at the time)

3) She eventually was elevated to replace someone who left the company, but then pissed off when she left her other job (banquet server/bartender) because... she made less working in radio than she would serving.

And mind you, this girl is incredibly hot. Not your typical radio person, and not a person who would have a hard time in interviews. The opportunities were just not there, and she spoke badly of CSB.

CSB is notoriously overpriced. The reason why Beningo got a job at WFAN is because he already had the ear of WFAN higher-ups before going there, but he uses it as an endorsement selling point.

My advice is to go to a community college and learn radio there, rather than going to CSB. There's jobs, but you need to have a wide, wide, WIDE skill set.

PM me and I'll go over some more details with you.

I've known a couple of people who went to CSB and both told me that they thought it was a waste of money.

PD's want to hear demo tapes that knock their socks off. You could go to Syracuse's Newhouse school or CSB - if you don't have the skills, or the contacts, you're SOL.

Didn't one of the O&A associate producers go to CSB and basically shit on it on the air? I seem to remember the only reason he got his foot in the door was bothering Brother Joe.

CSB is notoriously overpriced. The reason why Beningo got a job at WFAN is because he already had the ear of WFAN higher-ups before going there, but he uses it as an endorsement selling point.
Didn't Benigno get the job after he won a contest to host a show on the FAN? And they liked him so much they kept him?

You are probably better off getting a Community Radio show on some College station and gain experience over going to a broadcasting school. I mean It is fine if you want to do that, but in Radio, you learn more by doing it then actually sitting in a classroom. Btw I used to have my own radio show on WRUW 91.1 Fm in Cleveland. Loads of Fun.
