Ceres has always been there, it's a large asteroid... I'm pretty sure the biggest one we know of. It was actually considered a planet in the 1800's.

i say there are 8 planets, with dozens upon dozens of minor planets like pluto, sedna, cerces, etc. if you allow pluto to be a planet, then you'd have let in many other objects and then there would be about 50 planets

cerces was considered a planet for about 50 years. it was discovered in the 1800's but was pulled off the list when they discovered more later termed asteroids.

that right there is presidence for pulling pluto off since we've now discovered more kiper objects.

Bump!

Three years ago, the astronomy community voted to downsize the solar system by revoking Pluto's planetary status. Now the land of Lincoln is fighting back. (http://www.guardian.co.uk/science/blog/2009/mar/06/is-pluto-a-planet)

Jupiter has a core.

Scientists don't know how big it is, but with what they have gathered, they know it's there.

Thanks for getting to the core of the issue! I still say a planet should have a crust, though.

Yes, but nothing resembling any rocky matter.

Whoa.. whoa... whoa! Hold on there a sec...

Pluto Might be Bigger! (http://news.discovery.com/space/pluto-might-be-bigger-but-eris-is-more-massive.html)

Which is bigger: Eris or Pluto? Eris... right? Not so fast.

In 2005, the discovery of dwarf planet Eris started a chain of events that rocked the astronomical community and plutonites alike. Pluto was found to be smaller than Eris, causing the "ninth planet" to be demoted to a dwarf planet and be renamed with a "minor planet designator." (Although "134340 Pluto" does have a certain ring to it.)

The nine planets of the solar system became eight, astronomers argued, Illinois wrote some nutty laws, McDonalds tried to set the record straight, schoolkids went wild... In short, it wasn't pretty.

It turns out that Eris could be a lot smaller than previously thought. So small in fact that it is roughly the same size as Pluto! It could even be smaller.

REINSTATE!!!

RE IN STATE PLUTO!!!!

furie

but Eris itself is a dwarf planet. all this would do is make pluto the king of the TNO's just as Cerces is the king, or i guess queen of the asteroids

Eris can eat a bag of fucking dicks. That piece of shit should just get the fuck out of the solar system, we don't want it around.

Fuck Eris. PLUTO FOREVER MOTHERFUCKERS

Branson buys Pluto, reinstates as planet (http://www.virgin.com/travel/news/branson-buys-pluto-reinstates-as-planet)

Richard Branson has bought Pluto and intends to have it reinstated as a planet.
Sir Richard Branson is setting his sights on the final frontier in his latest business venture announced today.

In a universal first Sir Richard has revealed that he has bought the former planet of Pluto for an undisclosed sum.

As a firm supporter of small businesses Sir Richard is hoping to set an example for struggling entrepreneurs facing setbacks by having Pluto reinstated as an official planet, after its declassification by the International Astronomical Union in 1996.

If you love Pluto so much, surely it would be no problem to find it among the rest of the Kuiper belt refuse:
