The softball bat, Demarini White Steel, that a bunch of guys on my team chipped in for has now busted after only 3 1/2 months of use.

The stupid thing cost $200.

The rubber cap on the end came completely flying off in a game yesterday.

The thing still has no dents which is usually the first thing to happen to a bat.

So I call the company today and they tell me they'll send me a new one and that I have to send them the old one with a reference#.

They make it sound like they are gonna send the new one and then I just have to send the old one back.

It doesnt sound right to me so I call back and confirm that they wont send the new bat until they've looked at the busted one.

They make no mention of paying the postage.

What gives ?

Anybody else had this experience with this bat this year ( I think this is the first year it was made ) ?

Sorry for your loss, but no sympathy here.

The day I spend $200 ON A BAT, I would like the first dent made on it to come from my skull!

Anyway, these companies are usually pretty decent at making good on a high-end product. You should probably call them and ask that they send you a UPS call tag.

Actually I shouldnt even be that fired up because we all chipped in 10 bucks for the thing.

I'm more pissed that the thing came apart after less than a season's worth of ball.

Only 19 games so far.

With the high end hockey sticks out there companies have been real good at replacing them. So like someone else said earlier, you'll probably do fine.

200 is cheap compared to girl's official softball bats... well not really cheap but the last two bats we purchased for my daughter were around 250. it's a situation where i believe you get what you pay for and it gets proven on the field. the girls with the best bats are crushing the ball.

the one we recently purchased got a chip in it after several games. it took alot of followup but we finally got it replaced and picked it up from ups today

she's a very good player and can compete so hopefully it can help with some possible scholarship dollars down the road. or else like Hottub said "i'll beat my own skull with them"...

I had similar problems with baseball bats in the past at around the same price range (Easton Reflex) and they were real good about replacing it, can't remember if I paid postage or not, but got a new one in about a week from the time I sent it back. Good luck.
