They were talking this morning, on Mike & MIke, about the fact that Brad Penny didnt give up his #31 to Greg Maddux when he got traded.

They were saying how he should've done it becasue Maddux is gonna be a Hall Of Famer.

I'm a big fab of Maddux but I think Penny was right to keep his own number.

If Maddux wanted to be #31 on the Dodgers he should've went there as a free agent.

As far as Penny may be concerned maybe he wants to go down in history as being the best #31 in Dodger history so why should he just give up his number ?

Just my take on it.

I'm always amazed when athletes argue over a number. It reminds me of little league. I don't think Penny should be forced to give up his number, though I can see the argument of giving to a lock Hall of Famer. Unless Maddux/The Dodgers do something special then most everyone won't remember him as a Dodger anyway. My .4 nickel.

Russo also claimed that it was Sanchez's fault that he got injured when he was traveling in a car (not driving) that was hit by another driver because Russo couldn't understand someone being hungry at 2am, when they usually work from 5pm to midnight.

If someone already has the number, something should be worked out, but if someone is so superstitous that they want to keep the number, there's nothing you can do about it.

What about the respect to Penny that he had the number first? It's not like he's Aaron Guiel.

I'm sure baseball clubs have different unwritten rules when it comes to rights to numbers... and who is making a big stink about Penny not giving up his number?

I thought this thread was going to be about giving out your phone number. It's always uncomfortable when someone you really don't want to have it asks for it.
Was it because it was/is going to be retired for him (O'Neill)?
