<p><a target="_self" href="http://www.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,70131-1228653,00.html?f=rss">It's the end of an era.</a><br /></p><p><strong>Monopoly board game players can now pay for properties with debit cards.</strong></p><p><strong>Game makers Parker have phased out the standard multi-coloured cash in a new version.</strong></p> <p><strong>Players will instead use a Visa mock debit card to keep track of how much they win or lose.</strong></p><p><strong>It is inserted into an electronic machine where the banker taps in cardholders' earnings and payments.</strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>Anyone else think this stinks? One of the things everyone loved about the game was the cash, it's pretty much a pop culture icon at this point. And it's not even going to be a Mr. Moneybags brand gizmo either, the Visa label is right on there, product placement is taking over.</p><p>This is sadness. </p>

I'd like to see a version of Monopoly that uses aborted fetuses as currency.
<font face="times new roman,times,serif" size="3">And people wonder why the youth of today are so stupid. Thanks to velcro they don't need to tie their $200 sneakers and now there is one less reason for kids to learn how to count and deal with money.</font>

I bet our parents said the same thing when we started using calculators. My kids still learned math the old fashioned way at school and have no problems doing most math problems without a calculator. And they can use a computer better than I can.</font></p><p><font size="2">There's nothing wrong with using modern technologies. Besides, if you don't want to use the Visa card system, I'm sure you can still use the play money.</font></p>

Everytime you played monopoly the main just sucked. It was small there was too much. Now it will be much easier swipe your card and "boom goes the dynamite" your done!</p>

lets just take a minute and think what will happen when the visa cards and readers quit working. have to buy a whole new game. I still have a monopoly game from 20 years ago that I can still use.

<p>I think the standard cash version of Monopoly will always be used. THere's 8 million different versions of the game, I think this is just one of them.</p><p> </p><p>The wording of the article is difficult (British Journalism, big shock), but I think the paper money version is still available.</p><p> </p><p> </p>
