God Damn Did I Love that show!!!!!!

I could be totally off on this but I would swear it was hosted by the late great Mets announcer Bob Murphy. Is my brain working right, or am I totally off base and was it just a guy that looked like him?

I recall the show, in one of it's incarnations, was hosted by Larry Kenny and was on Channel 9 at like 7:30 pm.

But I think there were other local versions produced around the country.

Each city had its own version with its own host. The New York one was done at the bowling alley in Madison Square Garden. I grew up going to Knicks and Ranger games, so occasionally we would catch a taping of the show.

Bob Murphy did originally host the NY version.

Yes, it was Bob Murphy hosting and the main sponsor was Rheingold Beer. The show was awful, especially when they introduced the player's family members. For some reason at the time Bob Murphy was taken off the Met's TV team and was doing radio only. I guess he did this show for a paycheck.

I cound`nt remember the particulars as to why Bob Murphy did that show, but it had something to do w/ his release .

The biggest mistake the Mets ever made, besides trading Nolan Ryan for Jim Fregosi, was breaking up Nelson, Kiner and Murphy.

My family ran a bowling alley in Lindenhurst NY from when I was a wee lad in the 60's until it closed in 2004. My Dad's friend, who was a 200 average bowler, went on the show and bowled a 9. He got all of $9.00 for his trouble. I forget exactly how the prizes were awarded. I know you got $1.00 per pin that you knocked down, and if you got a spare or strike you got alot more. I don't remember how much though. We watched it all the time.

http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/4691/jokerbowling1977jpgeq2.png

The one I watched when I was a kid, you got to send a postcard in and would share the jackpot with the bowler.
