David Ortiz was voted by the fans to start at 1st for the AL all star team, only problem is he aint a first baseman. This is crazy, he has played first 17 times in the last 2 years. Paul Korneko is a much better first baseman, or should I say IS a first baseman.

Anyone else have any thoughts?

For the record I am not a Yankees or Red Sox fan, so this isn't politically motivated.

well he hasnt played 1st but this year there is not a DH in the all star game and he does deserve to be there. no question about that.

There is no DH since it's being played in a NL ballpark. He's the most clutch hitter in the game today and Paul Konerko is horrible. He or Carlos Beltran are the most overrated players today. Besides, this isn't new. Rafael Palmeiro won a Gold Glove in the late nineties and played less than 50 games at first. Why don't we just make the starting lineup all White Sox. Guillen did his best to make it that way.

What's funny is, they didn't even put Thome on the ballot. Why you might ask? They stated it was because he is a DH this season. Even though he plays more games there than Ortiz. Just a tad bit unfair in my opinion.

Sure Ortiz is cluch with the bat, but he doesn't play first, so don't list him as a first baseman.

The arguement that he is a DH and there is no DH at a national league park is silly. If there is no DH, then DH aren't on the ballot. They can get selected by the manager and sub in later. It may suck for DHs, but if they would learn a position it wouldn't be a problem. Just my 2 cents.

Also want to talk about overrated, Ortiz is a bat, nothing else, last time I checked fielding was a big part of baseball. Like Crash said, you hit the ball throw the ball and catch the ball, not ya hit the ball then take a seat.

When Ortiz is playing at NL parks he's the first baseman for the Sox. Same deal with the all-star game.

The rule that every team must be represented is worse...
Because of that, we get Mark Redman on the AL staff instead of Curt Schilling...

I'm getting on the bandwagon of the idea that the visiting team's rules should be played, not the home teams, to offset the homefield advantage.
I think the DH should be in effect for the All-Star game. Unless you're Mike Hampton or Jason Marquis, the pitcher is just gonna be hogging up a spot for one of the All-Star reserves. They already have enough trouble making sure every player gets to play. It don't help if the pitcher is taking up a spot that a pinch hitter is going to be coming in for anyway after the 3rd.
