However, this town is full of carpet baggers: in addition to the Shins, Portland is also currently home to half of Spoon, Frank Black, Steve Malkmus, Modest Mouse and a few others. In fact, even Johnny Marr was living here whilst working on the new Modest Mouse record.</p>

Sonics without a doubt at #1. They sound great now too. I saw them at Cavestomp and it was one of the best concerts I have ever seen.
Mr. Epp, Screaming Trees, and Gas Huffer should also be on the list.
Though they are a completely different sound and probably don't count as rock, I also love the Fleet Foxes and think they will end up being one of the best NW bands.

I'm going to cheapen this thread by stating that I'd like to have sexual relations with Jerry Cantrell.
I know we've established the fact that STP is from California. I remember reading years ago that the DeLeo brothers were offered the chance to buy their NJ childhood home. They passed.

Thanks P. And I can thank Guitar Hero III for introducing my 6 year old daughter to Heart. She has a Barbie mp3 player that she had me download "Barracuda" onto.
I can also thank Guitar Hero III for my 4 year old son's obsession with "Raining Blood" by Slayer. Good times.

I just remembered this band:
Beat Happening
I didn't like their music so much but I dug the fact that they had a plain girl in the band. That made the music scene THAT MUCH MORE encompassing for me. None of my friends looked like or were as cool as Kim Gordon, but we could all relate to the plain girl in the band. And we thought she ROCKED!!!!
