these aren't even real NYC area athletes. I don't consider a John Starks, who is from fucking Oklahoma, or Patrick Ewing, whose from Jamaica, to be a NYC athlete. Sure, they play for a pro team that happens to be in NY. These guys ain't real New Yorkers. How about Ron Artest, or Jason Marquis? Cmon, people.

Some thoughts -

Seaver's not on the list because I think on the New York Mets hierarchy, players like Gooden, Strawberry, Piazza, etc. outshadow him. Piazza's also detrimental in that he never won a championship. I know Ewing didn't either, and neither did Mattingly, but both of them put their respective teams on their shoulders during bad times and carried them.

No Mets on the list was an oversight on my part. Why the hell I put Brodeur AND Stevens on there, I have no idea.

Starks was a very popular player, I will grant you that, but I think he falls into the b-list hierarchy where players like Richter, Leetch, Bavaro, and Simms are.
