View Full Version : How many Championships have you celebrated?

So since I'm in the grips of World Cup fever it got me to thinking that I've never seen England win the cup and I don't know what my response would be. For certain though, it would be the highlight of my sports fan career. So, the questions then become what teams that you root for have won? How many times have you felt the vicarous thrill of victory and which one was you favorite?

I was spoiled in my youth, being raised 20 minutes outside of Liverpool meant I was celebrating nearly every season. They won the league probably 6 or 7 times before I was 9, the FA Cup maybe 4 times, the European Cup once or twice, as well as a myriad of other honors, Milk Cup, Charity Shield, Cup Winners' Cup, etc. By far, the sweetest was '86 when they won the Double, meaning the League and the FA Cup, and if I'm not misataken that was also the year they defeated Everton in the Cup Final. Rushie scored 2 and Grobbelaar had a particularly tremendous save.

Since moving to America and taking up with the Yankees and the Jets, I haven't had the pleasure of enjoying a Super Bowl victory, but I have enjoyed the World Series victories of '96 and '98-2000. And although I'm not a tremendous hockey fan, I do like the Devils to win, and I was in the building for their Game 7 victory in the last Stanley Cup finals they won. That was pretty cool.

i can only remember celebrating one as a hockey fan. i was young, but went to alot of Islander games with my dad in the 80s.

Yankees fan, so obviously a few

none as a Chiefs fan ...the one i want most

but my favorite was in Little League when my team the Tigers won the league title. only like 5 teams in the whole league, but it was great. probably better because i was one of the better players each year, but my teams always lost. i remember pitching for the last out and doing the whole arms in the air thing as the catcher ran out. and then a pile on.

Yankee fan since I was 7 years old, so 77, 78, 96, 97-2000. I also count pennants as winning seasons (since you beat your entire league), so you could toss in 1980, 1981, 2001 and 2003. Us Yankee fans are very blessed.

Not a huge football fan, but the Giants in 1990 was incredible. Didn't watch them much in 86.

Jumped on the Ranger bandwagon in 94, and that was an amazing spectacle. Will forever be a huge Messier fan because of his heroics.

I havent celebrated that much but I would have to say a few years ago when my roller hockey team won the championship after beating an undefeated team 3-2. I especially celebrated that cause our team was made up of random clownshoes(or known as an Independent Team) and we placed 6th in the season.

Colorado Avalance cup wins as well.

Rangers in 1994 was probably the most perfect night. It was the last time all of my high school friends hung out at the same time.

I was also part of the Yankees Parade in 1998 when I worked for K-Rock, which was fun.

With all the heartbreak the Caps have given us, we may have to count that and the improbable 1990 run to the Wales Conference Finals (aka the John Druce Playoffs) as titles, Whistlepig....
By the way, those 98 playoffs are known in my house as the "dog and pony show" playoffs, because my dad kept saying every time the Caps looked like/were blowing a lead "ive seen this dog and pony show before", I swear he said that at least TWICE every series
*shakes head* the Caps are seriously going to lead to his death i'm afraid
