Definitely not legit, but just a sad but funny&nbsp;Arab idea for a marketing gimick: ashtrays! i remember the Flintstones smoking once in a while during an episiode. i point it out because you will never see that now during a cartoon. hell, they are taking it out of comic books.

I actually have a DVD somewhere with the Flintstones hocking Bush Beer - it's a corporate commercial that is structured like an episode (15 minutes total, I think). The gist of the &quot;story&quot; is getting drunk make the bad things better. Ultimately, the cigarette one is funnier, but still odd how Fred and co. were always willing to shill, no matter what.

I guess no one saw anything wrong with cigarettes back in the 60's.&nbsp; It was just another product to hawk.&nbsp; Thinking about the current climate, with the hoopla over the epidemic of obese children and the removal of snack foods and vending machines from schools, it's not too crazy that we'll look back ten years from now in shock that cartoon characters like Bart Simpson were used to hawk Butterfingers.
