Third season starts tonight (10 PM on FX)...I gotta admit, I came onto this show WAY late. I still can't stand Leary as a comedian, but between this and The Job, the guy has a sense for putting together some quality TV...plus with all the charities he's a part of, he seems like a decent guy. I only caught a few episodes of season 2 over the last couple of months and man, I got hooked pretty fast. Just finished watching the 1st 2 seasons on DVD and I'm dying for the premier. Soundtrack came out today, too...good stuff. Anyone else still into this show?

I have been hooked on it since to first season. Great show.

Good show, good show. For some reason my cable box messes up FX, it will say "this channel will be availible shortly". But if I DVR a show it records.

I love this show as well. Tivo all set for tonight!
I hope they don't bring back the nasally female firefighter. I couldn't stand her.

Yeah, she wasn't the best actress for the role. She was fine on The Job, but she came across all wrong on RM. I liked the storylines she was in, but I'm not gonna miss her specifically too much. Franco needed a bit of comeuppance in that department, though...I doubt she'll show up except for maybe a guest spot or two since I think she left to star on another show.

I've been watching since the start as well and it's a pretty damn good show. I got to meet some of the cast, DL included, because they film most of the hockey scenes at my home rink in Hackensack. Unfortunately I didn't get to meet Cam or any of the other NHL'ers though. My Tivo is set and ready as well.

Great first episode for the new season. It has been awhile since a show made me sick with anger, but those last scenes kind of did it. Maybe I am just a jealous lout. Eh.

Now I know why Leary was so filthy on O&A and why he was surprised with what they cannot get away with on radio. It was like a replay of his appearance. Everything was blow me this and cock that.

I've been watching it since day 1 and will watch it always. I have a big crush on Sheila. She's so sexy and hot. I've always loved the slutty ones.

this might be the best show not on HBO. Dennis Leary has a way of talking the most awkward situations and making me laugh. That scene with Damian in the premiere was just plain awesome.

The end was INSANE though, if/when that comes to a head it's going to be a huge deal.

I also love this show and I can't wait for tomorrow night to get to watch it again. We had a lil gathering at a friend's house and I called the "big surprise" from his first appearance in the episode. Everyone scoffed at me.

It's crazy how the show goes from sidesplittingly funny to absolutely gut wrenching in a matter of mintues or episodes.

We need more great TV like this.

i think last nights episode had the greatest fight/beating ever on television.

after
he found out about them & was just sitting there at the table i was
just waiting for him to attack. i was like this episode better
not end with out him just going insane infront of everyone & kept
yellling "hit him!" at the tv.

PapaBear

I agree about the fight. Absolutely amazing. I'm getting kind of depressed to see how bad Charles Durning is looking this year. Knowing about Durning's WWII history, his declining health reminds me of my WWII veteran Uncle. All those guys are dropping like flies, now.

TheMojoPin
06-07-2006, 07:15 PM

That was a pretty brutal beating...though he kinda had it coming. How do you date your brother's ex-wife with how ugly THEIR relationship ended? Plus he gave Tommy all kinds of shit when he was seeing Sheila...

I'm impressed with how well they walk the line with Tommy on this show...just when you start to really like him, he does something truly awful that reminds you just how fucked up he is, and how poisonous he is to the people around him.

And about Durning...I'm not sure how much of how "sick" he looks is for real and the show. I've seen him in a bunch of films and TV shows since RM started in 2004, and in pretty much all of them he's looked a LOT better. I think this is how the character is supposed to be on the show. Granted, Durning's getting up there, but I'd like to think if he was really THAT "old and sickly," someone would have made him slow it down.

TheMojoPin

Holy crap, I had no idea about Durning's service in WW2...

As a 17-year-old infantryman, Durning was among the first wave of men to land on Omaha Beach. During that campaign and later in the war, he was wounded three times and awarded three Purple Hearts and a Silver Star.

Durning's impressive 50-year acting career has been crowned by a Tony Award and nominations for two Oscars and four Emmy awards, yet he never lost sight of his wartime experiences. In 1990, when he was making his Tony-winning star turn as Big Daddy in the Broadway revival of Tennessee Williams' Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, he opened up in a People Magazine feature. "There's only so much you can witness," he said of his time overseas. Indeed, his war decorations were hard-earned. Durning was the only man to survive a machine gun ambush on Omaha Beach - and he had to rise above serious wounds and kill seven German gunners to do it.

Months later in Belgium, he was stabbed eight times by a German teenage soldier wielding a bayonet; Durning eventually bludgeoned him to death with a rock. He was released from the hospital in time to fight in the Battle of the Bulge, where he was taken prisoner. After escaping a subsequent massacre of the other prisoners, he was obliged by American forces to return to the scene and help identify bodies. Finally, a bullet in the chest a few months later ended his relentless tour of duty - and began four years of repeated hospitalizations for his physical and psychological injuries.

In an interview with Parade Magazine, Durning said of his initial post-war years, "I dropped into a void for almost a decade. The physical injuries heal first. It's your mind that's hard to heal." And, as he points out, it's not just a matter of what is done to you, but what you find yourself capable of doing. "There are many secrets in us, in the depths of our souls, that we don't want anyone to know about. There's terror and repulsion in us, horrifying things we keep secret. A lot of that is released through acting.

He's always been one of my favorite character actors, but man...that's incredible. He deserves a mountain of respect.

PapaBear

On O&A, when they had the Rescue Me guys on there last week, they said Durning still has the handprint on his chest from where they guy he killed with the rock tried to grab at him.

Awesome episode. After Tommy saw the hands, the looked again and just sat there with anger and disgust, trying to fight off the urge to pound his brother because his kids were there and the anger just overtaking him. Fucking awesome acting.

TheMojoPin wrote:
What was the date when the cast appeared with O&A?
The song during the Beatdown was great. It's "Bonnie Brae" by the Twilight Singers (nee Afghan Wigs) and it's now firmly entrenched in my myspace.

TheMojoPin

The show's soundtrack just came out this past week. Leary's been flogging the Twilight Singers everywhere, and rightfully so. Their first few albums were kinda "meh," but this one is up there with the Afghan Whigs' best. I think he's used some of their songs, and other stuff by singer Greg Dulli, on the show before.

And it was just Lenny Clark and Leary with O&A? Ehhhh...might pass. Leary's a really good actor and seems like a decent guy, but when he goes into "comedian mode," I hate his act. Maybe it's the whole "he still Bill Hicks' stuff" accusations, but that's all I hear when he goes into his schtick...his "rants" seem so forced.

And he IS a damn fine actor When had that scene in the last season, when he kept telling the woman beating up Sheila to start punching him until he finally breaks down over Connor...holy shit. That was intense...and you will NOT seen it acted out any better by anyone.

Fuck is this show good. I can so relate to the Ms Turbody scene...been there with the whole "worked up, shoot quick" scenario on several occassions...

I can't get over how well this show is written. Kenny's decline into depression, the probie gay angle which caught me completely off guard, that first season opener last's scene with the girl and the CPR...

It's just one of those shows that is so obviously brilliant you know you're going to be depressed when it's gone. I hope Leary never stops doing television. Ever.

I've only caught about the past 5 episodes and I absolutly love this show. I know I'm late on it, but I just needed to check in and say how much this show kicks ass. I'm gonna have to rent the first two seasons on DVD.

This is the best show on (except maybe Monk or Deadwood). I've watched from day 1 and am totally hooked. I guess this is the payback for him raping his ex-wife??? This is fucked up!

This show does rock. I mean what bitter bastard other then
leary would have come up with this love triangle revenge sex
thing. It is some classy stuff.

Am i the only one that noticed that his sex scenes only last about 15 seconds and usually involve almost this rape dynamic?

And
nip tuck is on its way back and that show is just great. Im not
into the surgery thing that much so i cant sit through the hole thing
but watching it tevoed makes that show the best on tv. hands down

Ps new monk episodes suck along with the show thats on after it

The show is so brilliant. My favorite character would have to be Loud. Myf avorites cene in the entire series was when he was getting his hand stitched up by his friend, and he's telling him how he's depressed and thinks he would be better dead. It gave me chills.

I didn't pick up the soundtrack, but the selection is pretty good. I thinkt here could have been even more though. I hope they put out another one.

I love this show, but the way Tommy and Janet have gotten over their kids
death so quick bothers me. It's only been 6 months according to references. I
know that them greiving constantly would make for a boring show, but come
on, your child dies and you're fine and having new relationships in less than 6
months? Maybe that's accurate, I don't know. It just seems too quick. And the
Franco storyline too--this woman kidnaps his kid, he's upset at the end of one
episode and now he's fine with his kid being gone? I don't know, kind of
unbelievable. I guess minor annoyances because the rest of the show is so
good.

One more thing--did the probie have plastic surgery? He just looks different
from last season. I don't know what it is.

I absolutely love the shown and never miss it, but last night had me conflicted. The whole episode was great (particularly the story line of the uncle hating death row because he has to get a job, and can't stand his conjugal visits w/ his wife), but I had a bit of trouble with the sudden arrival of the long lost deaf sister. I kept expecting someone to wake up from a dream.
