Who's Paul Gleason, you ask? For my money, he's one of the most unsung character actors from my formative years. He was everywhere in the 80's, including my favrorite movie when I was in high school: The Breakfast Club.

"I'm a man of respect around here. They love me. I'm a swell guy. You're a lying sack of monkey shit, and everyone knows about it. Oh, you're a tough guy. Hey c'mon. Get on your feet pal! Let's find out how tough you are. I wanna know how tough you are. Let's go. C'mon man, just take the first shot. I'm begging you, take the first shot. Just take one good swing... "

Paul Gleason dies at 67

Gleason died at a local hospital Saturday of mesothelioma, a rare form of lung cancer linked to asbestos, said his wife, Susan Gleason.

Vernon: Questions?
Bender: Yeah, I've got a question. Does Barry Manilow know that you raid his wardrobe?
Vernon: I'll give you the answer to that question, Mr.Bender, next Saturday. Dont mess with the bull young man, you'll get the horns.
Lets also not forget the classic role he played in Van Wilder

I realize that these charactater actors are defined by the more minor roles they play. But, I'm always saddened to see when the pass away.

These actors and actresses have the ability to take a part and flesh it out in a way that adds that extra something to a movie helping it transition from good to great and assisting its evolution from a contemporary movie to a classic.

They did a "reunion" at an MTV or VH1 awards show a couple of years back. He did not look good. Shame I liked him.

It takes more talent to be a good character actor than to be a good lead.

DIE HARD

Sergeant Al Powell: In fact, I think he's a cop. Maybe not LAPD, but he's definitely a badge.
Dwayne T. Robinson: How do you know that?
Sergeant Al Powell: A hunch, things he said. Like being able to spot a phony ID.
Dwayne T. Robinson: Jesus Christ, Powell, he could be a fucking bartender for all we know.

RIP

Awww Reefy you beat me too it. One of the greatest exchanges in movie history. Classic lines being said right there.

What a damn shame. He was young too. Thanks Paul for the many side roles that made a good movie even better.

They're shooting at the lights!

Edit: I just read that one of his last roles was in a Sci-fi Channel movie called Abominable. Here's a picture from a scene I'm sure he enjoyed doing:

Whoever called in the other day when this was discussed on air mentioned that he was also in Van Wilder, I completely forgot about that.
