Don and Mike comment about R&F [Archive]

I don't listen to Don and Mike, but was flipping through and heard Don ranting about WJFK and had to stop and listen.  Don was ranting about how the ratings suck and the station as a whole is a mess.  In any event, Don said that the station started going downhill when the suits started treating Ron and Fez like crap.  He said that R&F had a funny show and it was a mistake to let them go.  Having listened through the DC years and heard how shitty Cameron Gray treated R&F, this brought a smile to my face.  Needless to say, WJFK is a sinking ship.

Would R&F would have wanted to stay around this long? The station was a sinking ship when they got there in '03. I don't blame them for not renewing their contract last year.

That would've been great.  I'm glad R&F are back in NY, but I would love to hear them at night.  There was a different vibe to the show at night (both at WNEW and WJFK).    The other spots in that lineup are ok, except I think D&M need to retire from radio.

I know Ron and Fez made many friends and have many great fans from the DC era but it seems like they were genuinely miserable there.  I'm not sure they would have stayed no matter what the work environment was.  They wanted to be back in NYC no matter what.

The only thing he did well at WJFK was emptying Gordon Liddy's urine filled tupperware container.   The guy is leaving the station in a shambles.   I guess we should count our blessings that he is leaving. Um, why is Cameron Gray a "dick" for leaving WJFK?    Make absolutely NO MISTAKE - the loss of Howard Stern and ironically enough, the Redskins, and to a lesser extent, Ron and Fez is what put the station in "shambles". Ron and Fez were miserable in DC, but it's the biggest market on the east coast they could do their show.  Remember - DC was the biggest market (at the time) with a Hot Talk station. For all we know, R&F and O&A were trying since 2004 to come back together on XM.  Friendships in radio go a long way... I think Cameron's treatment of R&F was magnified because of Ron's meltdown, but I don't think that's was all there was to it.

I think I am officially the only fan of the Peter Rosenberg show here.  It's different, I like how it flies around the topic spectrum, I like that it actually feels like someone from my age group on the air that's not pandering like the top 40 dj's.  I love the music, the politics...fuck it, I am a fan.  I think his show is a great show to follow the Junkies in the morning.And Penn's show is fantastic.  It's a crime he's not getting more than an hour each day.

I like Penn's show too, but at only an hour a day, I'd be fine it if was delayed and only replayed for me at night after R&F.  Peter's show is probably better suited for the hideout's old time slot as well as it would give him time to find his form and build his audience.

Rosenberg's show, like the Hideout, truly was awful when it first started.  After a few months, both shows found their eventual "groove" and everything seemed to click.  Rosenberg definitely would be better suited to getting his evening slot back...it's just still one of "those shows" at this point.

I tried listening to him a few times and I did not care for the show at all. I also do not care for Penn's show either. I will definitely not miss either show if it's cancelled. I already chimed in on my dream line-up on an earlier post. That's all folks.
