Can you put uke strings on a mandolin?  You can try, but I'm pretty sure it'll throw the intonation off because of the difference in the thickness of the strings. There are many deals to be had, eBay... Holy cow, that's cheap (excuse my language) my local music store has ukes, I never really even looked at them, might check them out tommorow.

And I think that has to be some custom job from a very skilled luthier, did you note the sweet design on the 12th fret? And none of us can ever give Bobo the credit he deserves.
