The Sci-Fi Channel has started showing the new episodes--and I'm hooked all over again. I loved watching Dr.Who with my kid brother in the 80s. Tom Baker, the 4th Doctor, is my favorite. The Doctor always had some real hotties traveling through time and space with him. The Daleks kick ass.<br />

<p>I caught the series last year when it originally aired in the BBC. I somehow *cough cough* found them on my computer. They really updated it well. There was a crappy movie a few years ago with Eric Roberts as the villian that I caught on cable on night. It had some name that gave no indication of being Doctor Who.</p><p>The new episodes I think start airing this weekend in England. Maybe I'll find them on my computer somewhere.</p><p>BTW - Billie Piper is the hottest Doctor Who girl ever.</p>

<p>Showing my geekness:</p><p>I am torn between Tala? from the Tom Baker years (she was a jungle girl who ran around in a deer-skin bikini, handy with a knife, and rarely changed out of it) and Rose. The original "Neice" of the Doctor from 1967 was kinda hot (didn't the mom of Rose play her?) </p><p>The series predates my birth by a few years but thanks to channel 44 in Northeast PA. I saw quite a few of the older ones in the 80's.</p>

<p>Fear not--I hardly think we've seen the last of the Daleks. The Dr. Who TV series historically dates back to 1963. The introduction of the Daleks made Dr. Who's popularity skyrocket. Somehow there will always be Daleks.</p><p>Leela was the jungle woman/huntress. Nicola Brynat who played Peri and Elizabeth Sladen who played Sarah Jane are my favorites. Billie Pipper is HOT too.</p><p>Visit this link:</p><p>http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Lot/9501/liz.html </p><p> </p><br />

<p>I've never been a big Dr. Who fan. I've caught a couple of season 27 on scifi in the last few weeks and it's enjoyable.</p><p> And thee one with Eric Roberts was originally broadcast on Fox 10 years ago. I recall it airing as my roommate in college and I were packing up, since he was a Who fan.<br /></p>

Most of the actors who have played Dr.Who have lasted an average of three years in the role for the very reason they don't want to be typecast. Tom Baker, the 4th Doctor, lasted the longest--seven years. The Daleks appear again in the season they are currently showing on Sci-Fi. They are in the last two episodes fo the 2005 Season, which Sci-Fi has not aired yet. There's tons of episodes guides for this season with COMPLETE write-ups of the episodes.<br />

<p>I'm partial to Tom Baker, but I do like the job Christopher Eccleston is doing. He's kinda nutty. The previous Doctors usually carried over some characteristic from their previous incarnation/generation. The 4th Doctor's long scarf replaced the 3rd Doctor's long opera jacket. Christopher Eccleston's wardrobe is kinda disappointing.</p><p>I like in the episode the Unquiet Dead how he had Rose dress in clothes for that time period, but he still wore the leather jacket.</p><p>Here's my question: how are people in the USA seeing the next/current season already? <p>Season 2005's episode "Dalek" is what I believe to be the first episode ever where the story happens in the United States.</p><p> </p><p>From Wikipedia: The term Time War can be applied to at least two types of time-spanning conflicts in the <em>Doctor Who</em>
universe. The first type of time war is where the two sides are
fighting the war across different points in history, separated by
centuries or millennia. The second type of time war is where Time
itself is used as a weapon, with pre-emptive strikes, time loops,
temporal paradoxes and the reversal of historical events. The Time War
of the 2005 series appears to be of the latter variety. </p><p>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_War_(Doctor_Who)</p><p>The Time War may have started as early as with the 4th Doctor in the episode "Genesis of the Daleks." In this episode the Time Lord launch a "reversal of historical event" tactic they send the Doctor back in time to prevent, stop, hinder or otherwise interfere with the Genesis of the Daleks.<br /> </p><p> </p>

Given the storyline that the Doctor is the last survivor of a war, and the need to modernize the Doctor a bit, I thought it was perfect. When the Doctor regenerated, and moved on from the war a bit, they went back to the eccentricities, but for Eccleston the starkness and blackness of his outfit was perfect.</font></p>

<p>Somehow, I wasn't excited about "Dalek" being the first episode where the Doctor had his shirt off. The scenes of Billie Pipper/Rose running down the corridors were awesome. On an UK-based Dr. Who messageboard, there's a thread where they discuss how good the cleveage shots are of Billie Pipper in each episode.</p><p>You don't like how the Daleks fly and I didn't like seeing the Doctor with his shirt. Here's an excellent solution. How about an episode where Rose's shirt flies off. </p>

A flash would be a sign of happieness, and I think the Doctor in this season, is not happy deep down. He's got survivor's guilt galore. He's feeling alone and is incredibly sad. Yes, he smiles and cracks jokes, but I think it's a bit of a facade, and given that, he wouldn't have a flash of anything. </font></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial;">Dr. Who
Season 2005 in many ways is the same show as the original series, but in many
ways it's very different. The charm of
the original series was that it was shot in videotape and was sorta campy. The new series obviously is shot on film and
the BBC has a much bigger budget for the production of the show. The new series has fully branched into sci-fi
for grown-ups. The original was a sci-fi
show for kids.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial;">Therefore,
it's not entirely fair to compare the original against the new series or vice

Hopefully David Tennant will catch my fancy as well.</p><p>By the way, Do we know how many regenerations the new Dr. Who has been through? Also, is there a maximum number of regenerations for the new Dr. (I thought the old number was 9 - but I may be wrong).</p><p>Something has always bugged me about the regeneration aspect - Dr. Who is over 900 years old but had only been through a <em>few</em> of his lives when the show started. Then, within the span of about 25 years (the original show) he tore through a half dozen of them! If I were Dr. Who I would be <u>pissed</u>! Several <strong><em>hundred</em></strong> years of lifespan for the first few lives, then a max of <strong><em>7 years</em></strong> for the next 6! I think I'd let the sidekick lead the way for a while to get those numbers up.</p>

<p>Thanks to the Sci-Fi Channel, we might see it sooner. The Prisoner is another of my favorite old British TV Shows<br /> </p><p>I've managed to see three episodes of Season 2006 and all of Season 2005. It's a completely different show from the Doctor Who that we watched as kids. The writing is unbelievably excellent!!! The stories are well-crafted and easy to follow. During the old days, the stories at times could be confusing.<br /></p><p>David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor is the best Doctor since Tom Baker. Tennant's portrayal of the Doctor is brilliant. He's eccentric, witty, bold and brave. They did a little more with his wardrobe too. Any Time Lord that wears white Converse All-Star sneakers with a brown pin-striped suit is OK with me.</p><p>Next week on Season 2006, the episode is "Rise of the Cybermen." No doubt we might see Sontarans soon. AND YES, there's gotta be a way for The Master to return and of course Davros.<br /></p>

<p>It's sorta both. It's a continuation because the Doctor is in his 10th regeneration and because in the episode School Reunion he was reunitied with Sarah Jane Smith who was his companion when he was in his 3rd and 4th regenerations. It's a reset because stories thus far are spanning no more than two episodes. In the original, a story could span six half-hour episodes. And in one case a story spanned an entire season. The BBC itself refers to the new series as Season 2005 and Season 2006 or sometimes as Series 1 and Series 2<br /></p><p>I guess it's a remake of the old series. I know this--it's very good. It reflects the changes in TV from then to now. It's slicker and the writing is excellent. The BBC did the original on a very low budget and it was shot to videotape.<br /></p>

This is not a "reboot" or "reimagining" of Doctor Who in the sense of, say, the new Battlestar Galactica or the Tim Burton Planet of the Apes movie. This new Doctor Who is more like what the old one would have been like had it just kept running from 1990-2004. The Doctor is still a Time Lord, and all his history and continuity is intact. However, from a production standpoint this is a new series. Hardly anyone from the original series is involved in the new one. The show's format is very different: instead of a number of 25-minute episodes comprising a story, the episodes are 45 minutes long (except "The Christmas Invasion," which was 60), with 7 stand-alone stories and 3 2-part stories in the 2005 season. The 2006 season is using the same balance of episodes and stories, though in a different order. <br /></p><p> </p><p> </p>

Disagreeing on Tennant, Eccleston did a really insane tortured spin on the Doctor role, following him up is gonna be a letdown to anyone. Alot was riding on this season (last season really but for the states, BBC-Canada aired it also during its creation) and Eccleston nailed it. He reminded me a little of his char from 28 Days Later (The Army leader). I'll give Tennant a chance, but the 9th was the Best doctor or maybe even the equivalent of Tom Baker.

Saw it and thought it was a great episode also. Annoyed with it being a two-parter but I guess that just means that they are doing their jobs well and writing good stories to keep people interested. Anxious to see the resolution of the story on Saturday.<br />

The Impossible Planet was pretty good. (I thought the Idiot's Lantern sorta sucked; the writing wasn't as good). It was cool when the voice of the "Beast" was rambling off all the names in different cultures and mythologies that it is known as. I have no concept of how I'm going to survive after the last episode of Season 2006 airs on July 8.<br />

For all you fans of the old show that was the same voice that did Sutek in Pyramid Of Mars that did the voice of the Beast/Devil/?.

It was the current Confidential that aired after the Satan Pit "Religion & Myth". Well knowing Billie is back for another season blows away my theory of her getting killed by the cyberman in the final two parter.
Actually it is widley known that the Cyberman come back along with an unamed enemy from the Dr past. I'm guessing Daleks most likely.
So now that they brought back the Daleks in thew first series, and the Cybermen in the second. I can only hope for the biggie of them all in the third The Master but who could they get its got to be jaw dropping.
Thank god for those certain sites where I d/l these treasures. Along with all the other Brit TV I d/l (New Tricks, Terry Jones Docs, the new Steve Coogan show once it starts, and countless others)

I've got to disagree Info, I found the epsiode to have been a luagh riot take the piss out of the fans. Come on the Scooby Doo type chase, that song from Animal house, ELO, and the guy who kinda resembled Douglas Adams (Former writer for the show folks). Take it in stride its like The Spy Who Loved Me (The Book), in which its told from a girls point of view nad Bond is only a secondary character to what else was going on.
The idea of onlooker at all the preivous London adventures trying to find the Dr was an original idea. Dont worry the only realy thing I'm dissapointed about is that Stpehen Fry's script. It would have been next one but was pushed back till Series 3 and then just announced he wont finish it since he does not have the time.
The best way to view the episode is look back to the SNL where Shatner did that once sketch at the Sci Fi convention. Take a joke
Also I think the last two episodes ar egoing to probably be hte berst two episodes they way Davies has talked about it. I dont think its going to end to nicley for Rose or her Mom.

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial;">I think
we'll see both Mickey and Captain Jack.
It only makes sense. The Cybermen
are from the parallel Earth where Mickey stayed behind. He's fighting them there and will probably
follow them through the crack in time/space to our Earth. Captain Jack is going to be in the Doctor Who
spin-off: Torchwood. Torchwood is the
focal point of the last two episodes.
Hence, we should see him.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial;">The
Doctor promised Jackie that he would protect her. Therefore, I see Jackie dying; Rose will realize
she has no long-time future with the Doctor.
With Jackie dead and Rose realizing she can't be with the Doctor
forever, I believe she will follow Mickey back to the parallel Earth where at
least her dad is still alive. And damn
it!!! The Doctor and Rose better tell each other that they love each other
before they part. Myself, I don't want
to see Rose die; just write her out.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial;">Here's my
prediction--such as it is--for a cliffhanger.
The Doctor loses Rose to either dead or she goes to the parallel Earth,
he defeats his two greatest enemies the Daleks and the Cybermen. And then...the Master appears in the final
scene of this season to say something like: "Doctor how good to see you
again. I've missed you [Or have you missed me]." And then we wait until Season 2007/Series 3
starts. These last two episodes should kick total ass!!!! They're going for a BIG FINISH with a HUGE CLIFFHANGER!!!<br /></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial;">It's a
given that the Master will eventually have to show up. He's the last of the
Doctor's greatest enemies that have yet to appear. (The Sontarians were an just OK enemy). There's alot of spoilers floating on assorted
sites. Some say we'll see of all people:
Rassilon. </span></p>

I joke around with a british pal of mine about the Master coming back. Like who would play him now since Anthony Head would have been great but he already did the evil schoolmaster.
My joke is that it would be Bil Baily as the master and Dylan Moran as Davros with a liitle drink cart behind him. Hell they had Tamsin Grieg already in the show why not the two others from Black Books.
According to IMDB Rose's dad does come back so you might be right that she goes to the other universe which is nice.
But come on if they do bring back the master they will have to really get someone big to do it. Gee maybe they can bring back to life Rodger Delgado or Anthony Ainley

<p>You know what would be even better---but sappy. Rose and Jackie both cross over to the parallel Earth. Pete gets back his dead wife, Jackie. Jackie gets back her dead husband, Pete. Rose gets a reunited family: her mom and dad. Very sappy--but a classy want to write Rose out of the Series.</p><p>Anthony Head might have made an excellent Master. He kicked ass as the Headmaster, Mr. Finch. I dig bad guys who have very calming. soothing voices, but whose every word is carefully calculated and sinister.</p><p>Even Darvos could re-appear. Consider this: the Master, Darvos and the Cyber-Controller [head Cyberman] and their creations--the Daleks and Cybermen--team up with Rassilon to defeat the Doctor. Craft the story correctly and the story would be perfect for "The Ten Doctors." Easily a four-part story. But some very clever writing would have to be done.</p><p>Back to "Fear Her." The premise of the story had potential. That concept has been used before in sci-fi literature and fantasy stoties. That's exactly what I said ot a pal of mine while he was waiting for his d/l to finish. Except Chloe was not as evil as Anthony.
Yeah your ten doctors story cant work for lets see: 3 of the orginal Docs are dead, Tom Baker is a about the size of a Tardis, McCoy looks really really really old now.
Them doing two parters is probably the smart idea to stick with. Think about some of the padding that used to go on. The five doctors could have easily been trimmed by 20 minutes.
There is one thing for sure if the master does appear that would be probably the best kept secret ever. Since the regeneration was supposed to be a suprise till Eccelston shot of his mouth about not coming back.
Yes folks knowing how to do bittorent is a joy for your tv watching.

Capt Jack is the lead on Torchwood, and no he is not a Timelord. He is a human from the way way distant future.
Here is an old article about Torchwood with the female lead who played the maid in THe Unquiet Dead episode series 1

Good news first. David is back for next season. Love & Monsters was the worst episode of Season 2. The remaining episodes are extremely good.
Back news--Rose is gone (but doesn't die). When she and the Doctor are separated from each other in the final episode: "Doomsday" it's very sad. That scene makes me get very teary.

The scene where each of them leans against the wall at the Torchwood Institute (in each universe) is extremely sad and powerful. A brilliantly written and directed episode. It was cool that Rose's dad from the parallel universe saved her. I just got the Soundtrack from Dr. Who. It has the sad music that they played as the Doctor walked away from the wall knowing he had lost Rose. The Sci-Fi Channel announced that it will start showing Series/Season 3 sometime this summer. Series/Season 3 started on Christmas Night at 7 pm in the UK.

I think the episode properly handled the Doctor's loss of Rose. Especially, the final scene. He was just about to cry when he said her name, Rose. He's devasted by the loss; it's better than having him just shrugg it off. I think we're in for some good episodes in Series/Season 3.

<p>I'm not an expert on all of the doctors, but to my recollection they were all either grandfatherly, juvenile, or emotionally inaccessable enough to prevent the type of love that was developing with the 10th Dr. and Rose. I'm not saying they can't shake things up, all of the doctors are different in their own ways. I'm just worry about the character falling in love when he's immortal and she isn't.</p>

I was used to the "loss of sidekicks" from watching the original series for so long. However, I wasn't sure how they would handle it in the new series. So far it has been brilliant.
And for the sake of others, make sure you warn about spoilers (or use the "spoiler text" feature). Most people aren't going to watch until season 3 airs sometime this summer.

I wasn't too hot on Torchwood either, I just thought a lot more could have been done with the Captain Jack charachter than what amounted to basicaly a X-Files ripoff.
I do think the last 3 episodes of dr who have been the best yet though, they've been on a killer streak, they've changed up what was turning into a pretty regular formula and I think that's what made them better.

Blink is great, but it was also origianlly a short story written by Steve Moffat during the first sereis. THe main character actually being 12 year old girl. Let me point out that Human Nature/Family of Blood were originally a book featuring the 7th doctor. With some plot points changed but still kept a lot of the book in it.
You can d/l the ebook of it off the BBC site.

"Blink" is by far MY favorite episode of the rejuvinated series (and favorete of the whole Doctor Who/Torchwood universe).
I think it's reasonable to say Blink could be made into a movie and work with some slight tinkering (you'd have to explain who the Doctor type character was in a way that would make sense).
I've been downloading Torchwood season 2. 6 or 7 epsidoes in already. I think it's more consistent thant season 1 by a long-shot. Only 1 episode had me kind of embarassed the way a handful did in season 1.
And im a little terrified for the upcoming season of Doctor Who with Catherine Tate as the companion. She was painful in last year's X-mas special.

Dude, you rule! We may be the only 2 on the board right now watching Torchwood.
And I agree, Torchwood is a lot better this season than last. The episodes have a better flow and the stories are more solid. It's hard to believe the season is half over already. Talk about a WTF moment in episode 6!
How many Doctor Who episodes is Catherine Tate supposed to be in next season? I had heard that she wouldn't be the companion for the entire season, but don't have anything to back that up. It may have just been messageboard chatter or wishful thinking.
Anyway, I don't think she will be as annoying on the series as she was in the special. I think the writers know better than to to have an annoying B tethered to the Doctor's side constantly. It's OK if she is a little forceful and opinionated, but she simply CAN'T be completely annoying all the time.
I hope...

Haven't watched Doctor Who season 4 yet, but the X-Mas special on the Titanic was really mediocre at best.
Just watched Torchwood Season 1 for the first time last week. Downloading season 2 right now.
On Friday, I watched the first ep of Sarah Jane Adventures and thought it was a fun show. Downloaded the entire season so I can just marathon it too.

i agree the xmas special this year was not good but i swooned antway due to the amount of time spent btw shows. as far as season 4 without any spoilers rose looks 100% better IMO and it seems like the season finale they are building towards is going to be epic.
torchwood season 1=meh
season 2=much better as they calmed all that lets have them all screw each other buisness

Ran the Sarah Jane Adventures Sunday and Monday nights. Fun little series, but more kid oriented. I like how they took the Doctor Who structure and applied it in a different way, and I didn't see the Big Bad coming.
And as for Rose, miss the Bad Wolf.

Well, it helps that the producers of Seasons 1-4 plan to leave after this season, and Tennant may go with them.

They might pick it up in the US, but it's been airing since last year on ITV. It's got some skin, but I thought the threeway scene she did was kinda tame.

The only male to really have a thing for the Doctor was Captain Jack, who was omnisexual in Doctor Who, but more gay in Torchwood. Any of the other guys who traveled with them were more interested in Rose.

Sarah Jane is more kid oriented, one of the eps I dled had like a kids show type host over the closing credits. It's still an entertaining lil show, and only a half hour each episode.
And if you have a prob with the sexuality, what about the episode in the first season of Torchwood where the asian girl hooked up with the blonde?
Radioguy

People forget that Doctor Who began as a children's program, not an adult drama. I think Sarah Jane Adventures is a way to shift that responsibility away from Doctor Who in the UK, but Davies has still said in Doctor Who Confidential that he has to limit himself from pursuing certain storylines or having to edit scenes because of the "kids".
Torchwood is for the adults, Sarah Jane is for the kids and Doctor Who is in the middle going both ways. I'm sure Davies sees it that way, anyhow.

I will be lying if I said it wasn't hot, but for gods sake, the guy on guy stuff is just rampant..if it adds to the story, ok..but it is all about Jack getting some happy time with Ianto, it seems recently. I mean really, first season..Ianto was nutso over a Cyber woman for an episode..then he's happy party guy for Jack for the next few episodes.

I would have liked the pterodactyl continue as an aspect of the show..(I have not seen all of them but I believe it was killed in Episode 2 or 3 of season 1, and have not seen it since.) I may be wrong..but in the season ender, they used chocolate to catch it..but I thought it was barbecue sauce that was it's favorite in the 1st season.

It's nice to see a show that doesn't turn being gay into a punchline or comedy relief.
About Ianto, he was attracted to Jack the first time he saw him, ( watch all of season 2 and you will see that).
I like that Jack is completely open to all comers when it comes to sex. I think that if more shows were like these and QAF being gay or being experimental would be more mainstream. Maybe for gay kids and teens seeing positive role models on tv, would be good for them.
Rose is much better then Martha, with Rose you got Micky/Ricky :), Jackie and Pete. With Martha you get a bitter ugly mother that is only out for herself and along with that you have to deal with her very dysfunctional other family members.
Also Freema Agyeman is a hunk of wood when she acts. I couldn't stand her or any of the actors that player her family, and I hated her on Torchwood.

I love Tennant as the doctor and I like the fact that he is willing to spoof the show (there is a skit from a British comedy show where he dresses up in drag and plays Rose) He was great on Graham Norton this week as well..
I HATE the Whiney Human thing..I wanted to punch Mickey for being a puss, then he manned up..I liked the recent Torchwood (anagram of Doctor Who) episodes..although I think there are story/continuity gaps between Jack's and the Doctor's first meeting from the season ender..

Moffat has written some really good stuff - and the Doctor Who episodes he has done are among my favorites (esp. "Blink"). I really enjoyed "Jekyll" and wish they would make a second season/series, but it doesn't look like it is going to happen. [Eli - I think you would like Jekyll]
