I'm suprised that no one here has brought up the fact that the latest episode that aired this past Weds. have Cartman ripping on Family Guy because he doesn't want to be compared to them, and the people of South Park are in panic mode (again) because of Family Guy's "insensitivity" when portraying a Muslim character.

I just wonder with Cartman's rip on the show means that Matt & Trey really dislike being compared to them or are they just acknowledging Family Guy's popularity of some sort.

Anyhoo, I thought the episode was hilarious and I can't wait for part two of this two-part episode.

The people at South Park rip on anything and everything. There's
no way to tell how the feel about something just because they bash
it. That's just what they do.
BeerBandit

It's hard to tell what their true feelings are. Usually Matt and Trey speak through Stan and Kyle. If that were the case here, they like the show because Kyle says a couple of times, "It's a good show, dude." However all of the points that Cartman makes about the interchangable jokes that have nothing to do with the plot are right on, part of the reason I wanted Futurama to succeed over Family Guy in the beginning.

I think, given their history of playing both sides of the issue, no matter what it is, they realize that it is a different kind of show, not in the same old sit-com mode, but rather just a showcase for a half hour of random jokes.

This week's episode was excellent - they got to jab the new flavor of the month "Family Guy," they got to slam Comedy Central for their editing and censoring their programs as well as bash the reactionary groups that protested them, and they got to make a social statement on free speach with respect to the Mohamed cartoons.

The Family Guy stuff was actually my favorite, echoing some complaints I have while watching the show (about the lazy jokes, etc). It's very funny - at one time I did feel like Cartman - just because something is supposed to be something I'd like, doesn't mean it is. Eventually I got over myself and was like Kyle, with just enjoying it for what it is. The Simpsons also got a great slam in on Family Guy and American Dad in an episode where they showed mugshots of criminals and there was one picture of Peter and somethign to the effect of plagorism, or something.

In an odd way, I think the Simpsons is the best it has been in years this season - same thing with South Park (imo) - and I can't help but wonder if it's all the attention and love Family Guy is given has made everyone step up their games.

I'll be interested if they actually do a "Part 2." I can easily see them not.

I can't even believe how many strains of thought they fluidly and flawlessly weaved into this two part epidode. Normally I am blown away by the brilliance of South Park for achieving a goal through parallellism or other means, but these two episodes were unbelievable, I mean they basically just wrote forty five minutes of television that could be analyzed for centuries as greek mythology or classic literature is. Unbelievable.

Wait!

So was that whole Comedy Central Censor thing legit, or was that the way Matt & Trey wanted the show to be seen. It just seemed so odd that CC would bother describing the image in text the way they did if it was such an issue.

I'm not sure which scenario I'd like more.

1. That CC are such tools that they censored the image after running an episode based on not censoring an image.

2. South Park are genius enough to make it look like CC censored them.

HBox
04-12-2006, 10:15 PM
There's an easy way to figure out if CC really censored them. Muhammad was already in a South Park Episode entitled "Super Best Friends." If that is ever replayed, then it wasn't really censore.

That show did not dissapoint!

I was sitting there telling my
friends, watch out, its the 10-year anniversary of the two-parter about
Cartman's "Dad". Here come T+P! Sho nuff, it went to ol' farty-pants
canadians!. Luckilly they were just fucking with us this time. Bart
Simpson being in there was really great. The ending RULED. Trey and
Matt are still awesome, screw all the haters!

Yes, the T & P almost got me there for a second. I was like: "What the F..... NOOO!!!"

Anyway, Seeing Kyle and Cartman finally have an "epic" and "climatic" fight was extremely funny. And at least we know how the Family Guy's episodes are being written. It all makes sense now.
