I'm not trying to make this thread about what's your favorite movie. . but more so about what do you guys think is the perfect movie. For the record my favorite movie is Beetlejuice . . but right now I'm watching Goodfellas, and in my opinion this movie is one of the most perfect movies. The plot, soundtrack, character development. . it just all fits so well.

Do any of you people have any movies that you think are just the culmination of everything good about cinema.

For the record, I'm not trying to say Goodfellas should be your perfect movie, but sometimes a movie just sits so well, you have to respect it. Any other 'perfect' movies out there?

Other than the obvious ones, Godfather etc... To me, Fargo is right up there. It's the only DVD in my collection that I frequently watch over and over again. The perfect movie.

Great writing, acting, directing, music, & it's even socially brave in it's portrayal of Dr. Praetorious as an overt homosexual (in 1935!!!).

Cleaver

I'm still waiting to see the "perfect" movie. I don't know if it's possible to achieve perfection, though.

Even movies that I absolutely love seem to have meaningless scenes and/or dialogue. And they're way too long.

Maybe it's because I'm impatient by nature, but every single movie I've seen in the past five years seems to be at least a half hour too long. I start tapping my foot or shaking my leg in the movie theater praying for it to end. It's like taking a great song and adding a 5 minute guitar solo to it. Just drags it out for no reason.

I think the first Matrix was perfect, and all sequals after it were totally unnessary.

REQUIEM FOR A DREAM really kicked my ass the first time I saw it, and it continues to kick my ass to this very day.

I don't know if it's PERFECT but, it's damn close.

I always thought Shawshank Redemption was maybe not perfect but close.

I always thought & still think that the construction of Oliver Stone's JFK is masterful.

Fellini's 8½ makes me want to lay on the floor & weep at its beauty.
GoodFellas is indeed amazing in pretty much every aspect.
All that said, Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid might be my perfect movie.

But then again, I could watch David Byrne's True Stories every day, so what do I know...

The perfect movie is Casablanca. It's got a little bit of everything: funny, romance, drama, etc. The casting is perfect with not one miscast in the bunch. There are almost as many one liners in the movie as Caddyshack.

And the weird thing is that it shouldn't have been good. The script was still being written when shooting started, and more people had a hand in writing that script than four average movies put together. Usually, you have that type of situation, you end up with a disaster. However, in this case, you get a perfect movie.
