Problem was, you had to keep doing it, to keep the reception. Luckily, I was a youngin', and I only needed a couple minutes to have enough spanking memory for a week.</p>

Was it one of those ugly beige colored boxes, that when
you pushed one channel button the other button would instantly pop back
up?&nbsp; Because I remember kids saying if you forced two buttons down at
the same time you could get free HBO.&nbsp; I never tried it because we had
free HBO for a long time because they screwed up at the cable company
and never turned it off at our house after a free preview weekend.&nbsp;
Even after we moved we still had it. They eventually caught on and
turned it off.&nbsp; All good things come to an end, I suppose.

That whole thing in the opener for American Pie was pretty much it, except for the nearly getting caught part...I was&nbsp;never&nbsp;caught, though I remember when once in a while the scramble would correct itself for sometime and the party would start.</p><p>I think there was even an episode of Friends where it happened as well, the scramble went away for days and they refused to touch the TV.</p>
