I have to disagree. Now this is my favorite sammich:

Cuban bread or (Substitute French bread if you must, but NOT a baguette!) Butter, softened 1 pound ham sliced (Use a good quality ham.) 1 pound lechĒn asado (roasted Cuban pork) sliced (Follow the lechĒn asado link or see the following recipe) 1/2 pound Swiss cheese, sliced (Use a mild Swiss -- we like Baby Swiss -- it has only a few holes.) Sliced dill pickles (dill "Sandwich Stackers" work great) Yellow mustard (optional) To make four generous sandwiches:
Preheat a pancake griddle or large fry pan. Cut the bread into sections about 8 inches long. Cut these in half and spread butter on both halves (inside). Make each sandwich with the ingredients in this order: pickles, roasted pork, ham, and cheese. Be generous!

NOTE: Most people use a sweet cured ham (jamĒn dulce) or bolo ham for Cuban sandwiches. If you can find these hams in your area, great. Otherwise, look for a slightly sweet, soft textured ham with a mild taste. You don't want the flavor of the ham to overpower the rest of the ingredients! Also, never use shaved ham or pork in a Cuban sandwich!

Place the sandwich on the hot griddle (fry pan) sprayed with a little "Pam" or lightly greased. Place a heavy iron skillet or bacon press on top of the sandwich to flatten. (You really want to smash the sandwich, compressing the bread to about 1/3 its original size!) Grill the sandwiches for two to three minutes on each side, until the cheese is melted and the bread is golden. Make sure your griddle or fry pan is not TOO HOT! Otherwise, the crust will burn before the cheese melts. Slice the sandwich in half diagonally and serve.

Yeah, Harold's is great. Elizabeth Montgomery was too.

I thought I had already eaten the best sandwich in life, until March 18th of this year. My wife dropped a dozen eggs in the driveway. She took those she could salvage inside, scrambled them (a bit more) and stirred them into the leftover corned beef and cabbage in a hot skillet. Served on Italian rolls.

God I love her.

I've been to Harold's a bunch of times.. their pastrami and corned
beef is the best. Nothing like getting one of those massive
sammiches, splitting it between 4 or 5 people, and then getting a bag
of meat to take home.

Their rye and pickles from the pickle bar make for a perfect
meal.

Oh, and in case anyone else cares there is a 2nd Harold's on Rt 46, it's between rt 287 and the Willowbrook mall. Right around where Rt. 80 hits 46 again, it's on the east bound side.

A pickle bar? Why aren't pickle bars required by law in all cities?

Okay, we went to Harrold's yesterday after I had read this thread, I was looking forward to checking this place out as I have been looking for a place in Jersey to get a good Pastrami or Corned Beef sammich.

HOLY SHIT they aint kidding when they brag of huge portions. The cake alone when you walk in and see it behind the glass is intimidating. Easily some of the tallest cakes I've ever seen. And portions, we made a big mistake of each ordering our own sandwhiches. Amy had the BLT and there must have been 2 pounds of bacon in it and an entire head of lettuce and probably two or three whole tomatoes worth of sliced tomatoes. They brought hers over with half a loaf of toasted white bread, I bet 4 people could have easily enjoyed it. I had the pastrami and the portions were again huge. Probably 2 or 3 people could have eaten it. Plus we got a potato pancake, and this was a HUGE pancake. Their cup of soup was easily a large bowl, don't even think of ordering the bowl of soup unless you want an a half table's worth of soup to deal with. We should have known what we were in for when we ordered large root beers off the bat and got practically 2 huge 2 liter mugs of rootbeers.

The food was great but we walked out with huge doggie bags. Some people had ordered platters and the amount of meat was practically naseating to see. Plus I noticed that a lot of their patrons were rather large and kept ordering stuff, I don't get it at all, we could barely finish a quarter of our sammiches.

All I can say is WOW!
