i went today to catch inside man with a friend. so we're watching the previews, and a promo comes up for flight 93. its a september 11th movie. (i believe flight 93 was headed for DC,im not sure... but it was involved in the day, its the one that went down before it hit its target) im the kind of guy who generally doesnt give a shit about what gets made into a movie what events.

but its less than 4 years out from the tragedies, and they have a movie made, and ready to come out in april.

ALSO none of the terrorists really looked like any of the guys in the picutres, barely arabic (yes i know they were pakistani's but that general area of the world.) one looked puerto rican and the rest shit i dont even know but not at all like they could be from that corner of the world, what kind of pussy cop out is that?

maybe its just because im a new yorker and they used actual footage from the attacks in the promo, which could lead one to assume its in the movie, maybe even its the fact that my sister worked down the block from there, and we didnt know where she was for 6 hours....

its just wrong. i know its no different really than a war movie, but for fucks sake man, it really really bugs me. I plan on writing a letter to the movie studio once i can articulate myself better. i was just wondering what everyone elses opinion was?

An awful movie that will make them look like heroes when they were victims.

Movies have historically been made, not only soon after, but even DURING tragic events. There were WWII, Korean, and Vietnam movies made while the wars were still being fought. They can be painful to watch, but they can help some people. Most of them are poorly made, but they still end up (sometimes) being historically significant.

I saw the Flight 93 movie that A&E did. It wasn't a great movie, but I still cried throughout the whole thing. It was painful to watch. I still cry when I see History Channel documentaries about 9/11. The fact is, though it may seem too soon for some people, there really isn't anything wrong with these movies.

Some of these movies do some good. Flight 93 is often overlooked, when it comes to recollections of 9/11. The people affected by that flight were mostly the people on the plane, and their families (as opposed to the people of NY and DC).

I from NYC -born and raised- and I saw the trailer last night. I wasn't offended. Like a lot of people, I was directly (and of course, indirectly) afftected by 9-11 but, this movie doesn't "bother" me.

We live in a different time now. It took the Eagles 20 years to reunite. Motley Crue waited a whole 5 years!

TV shows are repeated every 4 hours on cable channels and then they are released on DVD.

Movies come out on DVD just a few WEEKS after their theatrical run.

VH1 has proved that people are nostalgic for LAST WEEK!!

My point is... these days, people don't wait around. 5 years after a tragedy IS a long time.

Having said that....this movie doesn't really look like a good movie. It has a certain "made for tv-ness" about it. It sorta felt like THE PERFECT STORM or some shit.

"From Here to Eternity" was released only eleven years after Pearl Harbor. That's really not that long either when you think about it.

Just saw UNITED 93 (here in Toronto)

Theatre was crowded. People were so quiet you could hear a pin drop. The movie ends with a long black screen before any credits run and, people were totally and completely silent during those 10 seconds.

HOWEVER, some asshole in the back row started yelling "remember folks, it was an inside job....America did this to themselves!" To which someone replied "shut up you stupid motherfucker!".

People then started yelling back and forth and little crowds/groups started forming right there in the back of the theatre.

I am American, and I served in the US Infantry AND am also from NYC...it was tempting to get involved in the fray but, I was there with my wife and felt that the smarter move was to get her out of there.

I'm wonder if this movie will polarize (sp?) audiences all over the globe like it did tonight. It was certainly Greengrass' intent to make people think and reflect but to FIGHT....I don't think that's what he had in mind.

AAAnnnyway...the movie was well done. No sappy backstories were given to an of the "characters". No scenes of a guy telling his pregnant girlfriend that he "caught an earlier flight on United 93" etc etc. It begins with a bunch of unknown strangers and ends, pretty much, that same way. I respected the decision to not really include a bunch of things we couldn't possibly know.

It's not a great movie or a "must see!" but, it IS well done. Not quite AS well done as that documentary on A&E (or Discovery or whatever channel that was) but it was a well made film. It took me RIGHT back to that day. If you're ready to get back into that headspace...see it. If it's still too raw to see those images, definitely stay home. See it when you're ready.

just got back from it too. didn't have the same reaction as fezident, but the audience was a lot smaller. either way, if you have anxiety problems or a heart condition, don't go see this. mine wouldn't stop thumping from start to finish. it's one long emotional roller coaster that only goes down, and i definitely shed a few tears towards the end.

amazing performances, especiallly considering most were non-actors. really well done, extremely powerful, and not something id want to see again for a long time

Thanks for the reviews guys. I'll add my name to the list of people for whom the memory of that day's events is still too painful to relive, so I won't be seeing it any time soon. I'm glad to hear the movie treated the subject with the proper respect, though.
I am just surprised the movie is being released at this time of year. It doesn't seem like a typical summer film, more like a fall early winter kind of film.

If ever there was a movie that made me cringe almost from start to finish this was it. Barely into the credits you hear the low almost whisper of a muslim man praying and see him in the hotel room. It quickly leaves that scene It starts off normal enough with passengers arriving at the airport, the flight staff getting ready for their flight, the pilots doing their usual routines, the terrorists arrive looking all normal, all pretty much arriving individually and sitting away from each other. One of them even makes a call home to his wife to tell her that he loves her.

From there you're pretty much waiting for the first problem to occur...American Flight 11 is not responding and starts to go off course, a wierd transmission goes out and you know it's on. From that moment until the end it's a nerve racking emotional rollercoaster that is beautifully and carefully put together. Pretty much all of the events are put out as they happened. Some of the actual people involved that day appear as themselves including Ben Sliney who was the National Operations Manager at the FAA who acts out what happened that day. If things weren't bad enough for him it was his first day on the job. He has the unusual task of dealing with four hikacked planes, trying to get a liason, and grounding every single plane from the US airspace which there were over 4000 in the sky at that point.

I initially had no intention of seeing this movie from an emotional standpoint, though Amy was really interested in it. I had seen one commercial for it that made me really uneasy so at first I wasn't going to see it. Though we listened to an interview with the director of the movie on XM's Cinemagic channel and I got more interested in seeing it. I saw an extended trailer on Yahoo and we decided to check it out. While it's definitely very emotional and it easy brought me back to that day and what I felt, I am glad that I saw it. I think a lot of people need to see it again to get reminded of things. Not that we really forget it, but rather to know that feeling again the horror and the crisis that it was.

Like others have said, the ending is unbelievably dramatic and you cannot sit through it if you have any sensitivity of that day without tearing up a little. When it finally does end the theater was absolutely silent. People just got out of their seats and left the theatre. No noise at all. It was very odd to see people like that, but I myself was stunned like they were. There wasn't any screaming or shouting, or crying or anything like that. Just lots of stunned people filing out.

There are some actual images of the planes hitting the towers and some of the footage from the pentagon as they used video from CNN coverage that day though it wasn't anything that we haven't seen before and those videos were shown briefly. I really liked the movie for being respectful for the victims and their families and for staying on point to the events.
