i know furie has already opeded a topic on this, but it's just shy a 7am and i'm
frustrated and tired and couldn't find it. As furie has said we are in the process
of buying a house and need to find a good home for our cat. plus according to
the baby's pedatrician he is starting to develop a allergy to the cat. here's her
info:
she is a 3 year old tortis-shell calico. she has been spayed and has had all her
shots. she is very loving and doesn't cause any problems. I really need help
finding her a home. if i can't find someone really soon to adopt her. i'm going to
have to give her to a shelter. and all the no-kill shelters that i've come across
say that they are full. i'm willing to bring her to anyone or just about any where
that will give her a good home. please guys help me. this is like trying to choose
between 2 of my kids and it's killing me to think that if i can't find her a home
she'll go to a shelter that will eventually put her to sleep or have to release her
on the streets. which wouldn't be a good idea. PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!

I'll ask around this weekend... my house seems to take in animals often ((luckily my dad is a huge animal lover; we never had to do the "it followed me home" gag to him)). Do you know if she gets along with other animals? I have two cats - an adult male russian blue and an adult female maine coon; and of course I have my dog ((who gets along with cats fine)). I know my brother just moved into a house; he may want a pet. And my other brother and sis in law love cats too. I'll ask around, PM me if you need to.
Yea, I always get afraid when I let out my sister's Maine Coon... I'm always afraid the Asians across the street will be chasing her down the street.
Don't you have 2 other cats? The baby is developing an allergy to just this one? Or
did you have to get rid of the other two, too? That's weird...

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT LET THE CAT OUT ON THE STREETS - IT IS
INCREDIBLY INHUMANE TO DO THAT. YOUR CAT WILL DIE TERRIFIED AND
ALONE. I don't want to sound mean - but that is cruel.

If you cannot find the cat a home, PLEASE try to contact a
foster organization and see if they can take the cat in. Try
posting an ad on craigslist with picture. My sister found a cat and we
were able to find a foster org to take it in, but it took weeks of work
on my end to find one with space.
Shelly
her name is harley quinn (her face looks like it's split in two), but we call her
harley. after she gets use to animals she's fine. Yes, we have 2 other cats. one
is getting close to going to a "better place" and we're going to look for a home
for the other one as soon as we find a home for harley.

missy
we are doing everything that we can to find her a home and not let her out on
the streets. i agree that doing that is the most horrible thing to do. the problem
with putting her in a adoption organization is that all the ones that i've called
are full with refugees from katrina.

any help finding her a home would be greatly appreciated.

Try Mighty Mutts

They do adoptions at Union Square every weekend.

BTW- Have you sought out a second opinion? Allergy diagnosis is notoriously unreliable.

You also might want to see if you can figure out a living arrangement (Cat downstairs/Baby upstairs) since you're dealing with a house, and not a small apartment like some people.

I have a woman in WEstchester I can try and put you in touch with, but shes usually full up. With a cat my sister found, she had to keep it for 3 weeks, then I went to the womans house where she fosters a bunch of cats, and drove 6 unadoptable cats 4 hours away to a refuge upstate. Only then could she take then cat in.

I will ask around for you. If it comes down to it, do not tell any rescue orgs or shelters that this is an owner surrender. They will not take the cat. No kill shelters almost never take owner surrenders. Tell them you found the cat.

I just found out last year that I'm severly allergic to cats and I've been living with them my whole life. I only have problems when I don't vacuum regularly or they sit in my lap and shed

Zath and Furie, I talked to one of my supervisors and she suggested that you talk with your Vet and/or local Vets and see if they can post up flyers and/or use the power of word by/of mouth, maybe they know of someone that has lost a cat or something and is looking for another one. Also, look into and/or try going the route of rescue. Hope this helps and if you've already done and thought of these things, Im sorry....sorry I couldnt be of more help. And hope that you find a good home for your cat and soon.

rescue and shelters are no good. all of the no-kills are full because of katrina.

Rescue is different from a shelter- you will have to do a lot of ground work and calling people to get the cat placed, like I said, don't say it's an owner surrender or they won't take it. I got a stray my sister found placed in a foster home but I had to do A LOT of work to make it happen. This woman in in Westchester - I will PM you her email addy, but she may be full. Other places can get you a cage at Petsmart or Petco.
