yeah same here. i think its been 10 years for me. I did go to the comic book show a few weeks ago, and I did it.

I was big fan of Spawn, Batman, Superman, Captain America, Ghost Rider, Thor (my next tattoo maybe Thor or Vengeance).

Any recommendations?

If you want the best comic out there i'd say pop in and Ask for the first $9.99 and second $12.99 Ex Machina trades

every issue from story to art is top notch it's not a super
hero comic its a political drama with and former Superhero who becomes
Mayor of Nyc after 911

it hard to just say pick up a couple single issues and not just tell you to get trades

but almost everything is in mid story that there is so much back I don't know how anyone could jump in

everything
that is starting new in Dc is all one year later i think maybe you
could try that the newest Detective comics 817 wich is the first
in a 8 part story that happens a year after the end of the crisis wich
by the way has a couple more months to go then 52 starts wich will be a
new comic every week straigt for a year

Whats best you can walk in and look around and ask for thing simular to things you like already

The new "Marvel Zombies" mini-series is a real hoot

I like it but I wish it wasn't as silly and more scary but the covers great Zombified Superheros is the new Aged Superheros

Gvac, I love me the funny books, but I gotta say, stick to the trades. All of the best stuff reads infinitely better in one go, and all of the best writers are now scripting that way in the first place. 9 times out of 10, the best titles are agony to read month to month, and in my opinion, monthlies only serve a purpose to stroke the egos of collectors at this point. Smartest move would be for the big companies to start phasing out their monthlies down to a core minimum, and put the rest out in trade or hardcover form only.

And speaking of cutting down titles...did nobody learn ANYTHING from the near implosion of the industry in the 90's? There's a bazillion X-titles again, Batman, Superman and Spider-Man each have at least 5 or more titles at any given time...knock it off! I say the "icon" characters (Superman, Spider-Man, Batman and...well, nobody else) get 2 titles each, at the most. Everyone else gets 1 and 1 title only, and that's ONLY if they can consistently sell at least 25,000+ copies a month (Imprints would get more slack...between 10k and 15k could keep them afloat). There's too much extra crap dragging the quality down...learn from history, dammit!

Interesting little bit about Marvel from Boing Boing
Marvel Comics: stealing our language
Marvel Comics is continuing in its bid to steal the word "super-hero" from the public domain and put it in a lock-box to which it will control the key. Marvel and DC comics jointly filed a trademark on the word "super-hero." They use this mark to legally harass indie comic companies that make competing comic books.
A trademark's enforceability hinges on whether the public is likely to associate a word or mark with a given company -- in other words, when you hear the word "super-hero," if you think "Marvel and DC," then Marvel will be able to go on censoring and eliminating its competition.

One way of accomplishing this dirty bit of mind-control is by adding a ™ symbol after the word "Super-Hero." That TM lets the world know that you claim ownership over the word it accompanies. If you can get other people to do it, too, eventually you may in fact get the world to believe that the word is your property -- and then, it becomes your property.

"Super-hero" isn't Marvel's property. They didn't invent the term. They aren't the only users of the term. It's a public-domain word that belongs to all of us. Adding a ™ to super-hero is a naked bid to steal "super-hero" from us and claim it for their own.

The latest trick in its move to steal the word is using the ™ symbol in the bumpf for its California science centre show -- they've recruited a science museum to help them steal "super-hero."

Here's a proposal: from now on, let's never use the term "super-hero" to describe a Marvel character. Let's call them "underwear perverts" -- as Warren Ellis is wont to -- or vigilantes, or mutants. Let's reserve the term "super-hero" exclusively to describe the heros of comics published by companies that aren't crooked word-thieves.

I was using DCBService.com for ordering...so I'm practically clueless as to what I'm getting this week. But I know I'm buying 52 #2 at a local shop. I got so friggin' addicted to discussing comics at Newsarama.com and I'm an instant gratification kinda guy, that I kept having one issue of Infinite Crisis delivered but then picked up a copy locally...until I smartened up and stopped ordering that book online at all. So I only ordered 52 #1 online, because it was at a 75% discount.

From what I saw on Eli's list, I'm getting 52 and Superman/Batman. Might pick up the Ult X-Men book. Might try a Civil War tie-in if I'm sure it ain't coming in the DHL delivery...

I usually like Loeb but this Superman/Batman arc he's been doing, for what seems like forever is awful. I cannot stand Batzarro and Bizzaro Superman. I had to drop Superman/Batman until they change writers. And I loved Hush but for some reason this shit is ridiculous. The last one I bought I actually almost put it down without even finishing it.

I find all of Jeph Loeb's stories start strong and end disappointingly. Long Halloween. Hush. etc.

I read an article once (forget who wrote it) where they pointed out the reason his comic stories aren't completely cohesive is because he's a tv writer who is ussed the the mechanisms of tv (viewer can't go back to recheck things as they watch, etc.) so his details and pacing aren't what entirely works in comics.

than the '70's. Before you give me a "well....duh..." smart ass
reply........read the last few years of ANY DC title and you will see
what I mean.

I also highly recommend THE RUNAWAYS. Its his best work and a damn fine read as well.

Ultimates #11 was pretty good this week, it's building up to a nice climax in the next two issues. I haven't had the chance to read my other stuff yet, but I am looking forward to the Eternals. Neil Gaiman writing classic Jack Kirby stuff sounds great.

The Eternals NEVER interested me. The only time I thought they
were even a hint of interesting was in EARTH X, and that was a cameo at
best. Neil is a phenomenal writer......but I can't see
things getting any better than they did in the first issue. I
feel the same way about the INHUMANS. The min they did a few
years ago was only interesting because of Jae Lee.
Did anyone else catch the New Avengers this week? Good stuff.
Also I am putting on my list for the week Green Arrow. Best
writing in the DC uni, by far.
I love Neil Gaiman. He could write two words on a napkin and I'd buy it. I wasn't going to buy Eternals and wait for the hard back, but my comic shoppe gave me a free copy of the first issue, so I'll be reading it this weekend.
