I just found out about this minutes ago. They're giving away 45,000 free tickets for opening weekend. I signed up for Sat., April 1st. Five minutes later and I see that they've already "sold out" for Sat. and Sun. So, I guess you can disregard this thread pretty soon.

All the tickets are officially gone so you can lock up this thread, or ignore it or make more bar towel giveaway jokes.

I was able to get two tickets for April 1st. Anyone else even bother?

Good news for Mikey D. The site seems to be back up again. Just as an FYI: a one day pass is about $60.00, so two tickets is $120.00 value. Even if you don't want em, you can probably unload them on ebay or something for a couple of bucks.

Link: http://sixflags45.com/

nothing like standing in hour long lines next to rednecks in budweiser wifebeaters who lack any sort of deodorant, or is six flags different

Six Flags is under new ownership, and their main goal is pushing the family aspects of the park. They REALLY want to try and bring the families back. This entails hiring a TON more employees, including characters, park staff, security, and more.

We'll see what happens.

I live 20 minutes from there and have been a Season Pass holder for the last six years. To be honest, they've been promising those improvements every year I've been going. What might be different this year is that Dan Snyder (of Washington Redskin fame/infamy) recently gained control of Six Flags in a hostile takeover of sorts. The new business plan is to stop building giant new roller coasters every year, in favor of family rides and attractions and increased corporate sponsorship. By improving the family atmosphere to something closer to Disney they hope to attract more families (which tend to spend more money) and less of the redneck wife-beater and inner city youth crowds that have made the park somewhat unbearable in the past.

That being said; they only gained control back in Dec. so I wonder how many changes they have been able to institute. As it is, they are opening a giant new wooden roller coaster this year that was already under construction before the takeover. I know that they're planning more Looney Tunes characters walking around and will be even offering lunches with the character deals. And for he comic book fans they will be having a new "Justice League" attraction (whatever that might be) with costumed super-heros.

Not that anyone probably cares, but I just wanted to confirm that this wasn't a scam. I just received my email with the "Print 'n Go" tickets (a $120.00 value). Since I already have a season pass I'm probably going to try and unload the tickets for a couple of bucks. All in all, a pretty good deal.

I'm still waiting on my Guiness Bar Towel though. Has anyone heard anything on that?

I went to Great Adventure on Sunday using the free tickets.

Which I would like to thank judge smails for posting on the board.

The new wood roller coaster looks great for being about 65% done.

There are more Looney Toons stuff.

But I had a good time beside waiting on line for 3-4 hours for the Kingda Ka Roller Coaster which did not open till 2 hours after the park opened. Olny to be closed for the day right before my group got on only a mear 4 hours later and limited runs.

Then there were the break downs on Superman.

So overall was a funtime with friends to only end up discussed for the waits and breakdowns and the poor customer service. 75% of the rides were open and 65% of the food service.

Hope others had a better time than me on the other days.

Sorry to hear you had a bad time but at least the price was right. I've got my own issues with the place. As I've stated before I live relatively close so I've been a season pass holder for six years because it's convenient. Sometimes we just take the kids for a couple of hours as a treat. Every year they promise that this will be the year that they improve customer service and every year they let me down. I had my own issues over the weekend but then I've learned from experience not to go there with big expectations.

It's particularly bad now because the schools are still in session so they can't get the summer help yet. I'd say that 90% of the employees were from Thailand and of those about 5% spoke enough English where you could communicate with them.
