Church Bells

<p>I got back to campus today and due to the weather and my overpowering air fresheners, I opened my window...</p><p>Just got back from class a short while ago and at 6 pm, the church bells at some local parish started ringing a melody...</p><p>...and then another...</p><p>...and then another...</p><p>...and then another...</p><p>for eight minutes straight.&nbsp; In my experience between the church my parents belong to and the church within distance from our farmhouse in PA, I've only heard church bells ring every half hour or hour and play a short melody... not usually lasting more than a minute...</p><p>I don't know why this church feels the need to play these four melodies for 8 minutes.&nbsp; While they are pleasant to hear, I can imagine wanting to physically harm someone if having to hear that every single day.&nbsp; Does anyone else have the experience of a church playing melodies for longer than the usual short less-than-a-minute thingie?<br /></p>

I don't know what is more soothing, hearing church bells, or that distant train whislte in the middle of the night.
