Shit, those guys were real men. I mean hockey still seems to be one of the most physical sports out there today, but they fucking played with NO HELMETS!

MEN GODDAMNIT!!!!!! REAL MEN!

Those legendary Canadien teams were the reason the NHL changed the
rule about power plays. Time was, you remained a man up for the
duration of the penalty. Those old Montreal teams were so
efficient with the advantage the league made the change that once a
power play goal is scored, the short handed team gets their man
back.

So long, Boom Boom. Say hi to The Rocket for me.

Here's a partial list of injuries suffered by the guy on the left there, Terry Sawchuk:

During his 21-year career, Sawchuk had several nervous attacks that caused brief retirements. He also missed more than his share of games with injuries, including a ruptured appendix, punctured lungs, ruptured discs, severed tendons in a hand, a broken instep, and bone chips in his elbows that required three operations.

He also ended up having his face stitched up 400 times...

The introduction of the curved hockey stick is what led goalies to don
face protection. Teeth and eye sockets proved no match for rising
slap shots.

ironically, famed goaltender who played his whole career, i believe with the Rangers ang got hit in the face many times with pucks and sticks, got killed when he came home drunk one night, fell and hit his head on a lawn sprinkler

is the pocket rocket or 'the flower' still around

dam it was a different game. i remember playing with no helmets and if a golaie didnt wear a face mask or a crappy one, first cxhance you got, you fired a slap shot high and toward his head, so all game long he'd be worried about that and not your next shots which would be on goal, but he'd be doing the turtle all game long

Staples

Yes I believe Henri Richard and Guy LaFleur (who's alleged sexual exploits are legendary in Montreal) are still alive....
No one...AND EL MUDO MEANS NO ONE...was EVER as smooth on the ice as "The Flower"
One of my all time favorite plays in hockey history was in the Cup Finals , I believe in 77, when Boston picked up that too many men on the ice penalty (nice job of coaching Grapes) and LaFleur took the puck on his own end, and basically did a Tyus Edney....drove the puck all the way up the ice through everyone, set up Stevey Shutt on a beautiful drop pass and who beat Gilles Gilbert to tie the game, which then was won by Yvan Cournoyer
