Clear Channel, apparently an early investor in XM, is demanding the four channels they control carry commercials. It looks like the free ride is partly over.

And XM is introducing at least 4 new channels to make up for it. I'm kinda digging on the new XM Chill channel.

Only the music channels on Sirius seem to be commercial free.

Any that are tied to actual TV shows like those on ESPN ( Mike & Mike, Around The Horn, PTI, etc .... ) go to commercials.

As do the NFL channel and most of the talk stations.

metal stations and being able to listen to Jim Breuer are the only
selling points for me for Sirius. I have heard good things about their
metal stations variety.

Here here!! I'd actually like to see a little bit more variety to the metal. Liquid is fine and dandy, but an industrial channel would be nice

So far the only new channels I've heard released are Big Tracks and XM Chill, but the potential list is here

Includes the possible return of Special X to the airwaves.

I really think iPod will screw them all when they figure a way to get internet streaming radio available on their devises without having to "Podcast," and my bold prediction is Infinity/CBS Radio will be right in step with them as a content provider.

* i-Tunes already has internet radio stations listed on their desktop version
* CBS Radio began aggressively podcasting all of their top shows in January

Places like WOXY.com or AlternativeBroadcasting are desperate for the technology to change - once it does, SatRads better hope their talent will keep folks signed up.

I can totally understand playing the commercials during the live shows, but why do they need to play commercials during the replays? That's just stupid & greedy.

Reuters: "Unlike longer ads, which run during minutes-long commercial breaks, the blinks and adlets are slipped in between songs"

Edit: Doesn't apply to XM...sorry
