Today I was selected to sit on a jury trial.

This is a first for me and I have to say it is quite interesting to watch these goof-ball lawyers work.

Can't say any specifics other than it is for assault w/ a deadly weapon (car)

I was on a jury once. Most boring two weeks of my life. What sucked more was that I had to go to the office each day after my jury duty was over.

Just remember that thing that Ron's trying to keep going, and that he's keeping from Earl, as you try to come to a verdict.

What timing! I just got picked to sit on a Grand Jury last week. Every Thursday for 18 weeks. It's amazing what people will do to get out of it. One woman said "I can't make decisions" The judge let her go. Out of 80 of us, 50 said they had hardships. I knew at that point, I was going to be picked.

It's done.

The defendent got on the stand yesterday and made a fool of himself so he made a plea agreement with the DA this morning.

Bunch of stupid f-ing meth-heads all deserve to go to jail. The witnesses seemed to be just as guilty if not more guilty than the guy on trial.

Meth-head1 (defendent) was burned by meth-head2 for 500 bucks. so mh1 rammed his car into mh2's car twice. mh3 and 4 (girlfriends) got on the stand made fools of them selves so mh1 took the stand in his own defense and made it even worse.

So this morning we (the jury) sat in the jury room for 3 hours while mh1 made plea agreemenet and probably will go to prison for 1-4yrs instead of 8-10yrs.

I never knew why everyone gets so pissed off about jury duty. Maybe it's because I've never done it, but part of me wants to feel like I can help by deciding something like that. Almost like I can try to do the right thing or something, I dont know. Plus you can't get in trouble for missing the time at work, and you meet a bunch of people. Who knows what type of people you might meet and what things may come of that.

I had a GREAT time the last time I was on a jury! More than a week off of work. Eating lunch downtown. Being dismissed right after lunch twice because the Judge had a tee time.

And we put the fucker away for a few years. Assault, Sexual Assault, and one other count I can't remember.

Miss Jury Duty!

I totally enjoyed it. I would recommend every one who gives the slightest about what happens in our society to "not weasel out" if given the chance to sit on a jury.

Really opened my eyes to some of the stupid things people do and made me glad I got out of the shit when I had the chance.

I served on a grand jury about 8 years ago. It was really interesting hearing the different cases. Mostly drug related. One was some guy kidnapped and raped his girlfriend's 16 year old daughter. The big case was a murder trial, involving this albanian family which was pretty big in westchester county. this guy shot and killed his cousin's wife and her father, while the 2 young children were inside the house and saw everything. turned out the wife was pregnant. he was having an affair with his cousin's wife, and i think he actually fathered the oldest child. they were a rich family, and the killer actually won the lottery a few years prior to that. the lawyers played phone conversations between the woman and man, and that was really creepy to hear it. and i just felt so bad listening to the husband and the other witnesses talk about that night. I also worked right down the street from this house, so i d drive by it every day. he ended up going to jail. in a sad twist, about 2-3 years ago, the convicted guy's son got into a drunken fight at a high school party. he punched some kid and the kid fell and hit his head and ended up dying because nobody called the police or ambulence right away, they just let the poor kid lie there on the ground because they didnt want to get in trouble. nice family

I was called to Federal Jury Duty down to Newark. Fucking sucked just going the one day.

The case was between 2 insurance companies, one of the people in the middle of it was dead and tapes of things he said in past trials would be played. Sounded like the most boring fucking thing EVER.

So glad I didn't have to go. I remember posting about it either in here or on my blog and I got shit from some nameless asshat saying I should have been happy to do my civic duty. Well ya know what, I just got promoted at my job, my car isn't that great and I hate insurance companies.

Fuck that.

I just served jusry duty here in Queens. They have you call each night until they need you or a week is over. The case I was in the pool for was a drug case. The defendent was caught with over one pound of uncut cocaine. His defense was that it was for his own personal use. When the defense attorney said that in the courtroom, you should have heard the laughter. Needless to say, 99 pct of us were excused and another pool was brought in. Well only two days were shot .

I know its my "duty" to do it, but I will do anything I can to not do it. I finally figured out that they cant prove that you ever got the notice, so now I just throw it away and forget about it. I firmly believe they should have jury duty for either the unemployed or the retired ONLY. Regular working people should have an automatic excuse. Case closed!

I think they are looking for a good cross-section of society. Therefore, people who work should be included. I work and it is messing up my schedule as well as some important deadlines, but I still have no regrets. You may be surprised if you ever get picked. You learn quite a bit about how the legal system works and meet new people.

As for the "throw it away" option...Not advisable. My brother said his judge was going to give one guy 3 days in jail for not showing up, even though he wrote a letter. Just passing it on.

While I agree that they should try to find as good a cross section of the public as possible for juries, there should be a professional jury service. Think about it. Everyone in the court room is a professional (judge, lawyers, stenographers, etc) but the people who have the most important job are all novices concerning the law.

it's just amazing to me that the "law & order" shows are some of the highest rated but no one will be a part of the process in real life. i guess more people would be willing to be on a jury if the case was wrapped up in an hour

Counting being selected my jury duty lasted nine days. Some were boring and some were exciting. It was really interesting being involved with the whole process. I'm glad I got selected, though wish it ended a day earlier.

Jury Duty Is A Good Experience, All the Way Around.

Having Seen It First-Hand While On Jury Duty, Fat Has Faith That If He Were Ever On Trial, That A Fair And Honest Jury Would Be Chosen. It Is Actually A Very Great System!

i feel your pain. i was selected on the thursday before Easter(day 1), the courts were closed Friday(day 2), the case started monday afternoon(day 3) and was only supposed to be a 2 or 3 day trial. As friday rolled around, we just started deliberating. 7 days total. the only good thing is that if you serve more than 3 days on a jury, you get excused for 1 year for every day after 3. so i am exempt from jury duty for 4 years. but with that being said, i would do it again.

Not anymore in my area. They are finding it harder to get jurors, so three years to the day you served is the next time I'm up.

well, in philly, if you aren't picked, you get called about every 15 months which is why they give you the deferral. also, if you don't show when you are called, the sheriff comes to get you and your fine for skipping jury duty pays for the continental breakfast for the people who do show up.
