Anyone see Mirrormask?

I watched it yesterday during my flight and I have to say Dave McKean and Neil Gaiman created a really wonderful film in the vein of British fairy tales. Very imaginative, stylish piece taken from the drawings and paints that Dave has done over the years (if you've read Sandman, you know the look of the film from the books' covers).

I saw this in the theaters last year.

I thought it looked pretty with pretty effects and fancy costumes but it felt forced to me. Unlike stuff like The Dark Crystal and Labrynth (All hail Bowie) the made me think that it was doing what it was doing just for the sake of being able to say it looked snazzy instead of a more fluid experience. Each scene made me think that it was trying so hard to be so strange and different. The movie didn't flow well with me, everything seemed disjointed.

Not sure else how to describe it. Quite let down.

I just saw it the other month. I think it ended very......abruptly. it had moments. I liked the artsy aspect and how it incorporated the 'human in cartoon world with weird vinyl person'. The witch/evilqueen reminded me a little too much of the witch from chronicals of narnia........ oh well. Ok watch.

I really really love Neil Gaiman but this was only playing in the city and I never got to see it... is it out on DVD yet?

I was reminded of the White Queen from Narnia when I saw the Black Queen also. Especially in the scene when they were having dinner together.

I think part of the disjointed feeling is part of Dave's artwork. Not so much a feeling that he was trying be different, but that each scene was like another painting.

missy, DVD came out a couple weeks ago.
