Don't click Enter. Just click on the graphic and you'll see the orientation film.

There's lots more Dharma/Lost stuff out there. Check out some of the boards... when you're ready to come inside.

I did a little research on the site myself and this is what I found out. There are two username/password combinations for this site. So far I found out a possible username which is "cknisley". I have no idea who it is or if there is any direct relation to the show. Now we just have to find the right password for this username and see if it works.

Don't even bother.

There won't be any "secrets" revealed or anything like that. The writers themselves said that they only have a "very basic outline of where things are headed" and the actors said, in more than one interview, that they doubt there is even an outline.

Any website that posts any info is most definitely just making shit up.

Good luck cracking this one. I took a look at the code and it combines the username and password then runs the string through an md5 hash. There are two hashes on the site, meaning there are two different username/password combos that work, but md5 hashes are pretty much impossible to reverse engineer. If anyone here thinks they are genious enough to do it, the two hashes are :

4ce8eb77952dcf34505de7e04fd68fc7

732d9dda7f79c827c4453bda8f2d441a

So if it takes one day to test a 6 character string combination, it will take one day times how ever many possible characters there are. If you are only testing letters, that would be 52 days (26 uppercase and 26 lower case) for a 7 character string, and 2704 days for an 8 character string. If you could just brute force crack md5 hashes they wouldn't be so widely used.

Plus you have to take into consideration that it probably takes 1 or 2 seconds to create an md5 hash and check it against the two that already exist to see if there is a match. The only thing that I'm concerned about is if the person or people who developed this site included special characters. Now most sites do not use them but if they truly wanted it to be difficult or near impossible they could have incleded them. Finally I'm praying that they didn't include a "salt" when creating the md5 hash because if that is the case then we'll never be able to crack the hash unless we get lucky with random guessing, which gives us better odds at hitting Powerball.

Ok, I'm going to break down the numbers for you. If you want to find out how many possible strings there can be with so many possible characters, you raise the total number of possible characters to the length of the string. So lets say if you wanted to know how many different combinations there are using numbers 0-9 in a three character string. You would raise 10 (the total number of different characters) to the power of 3 (the length of the string) and you come up with 1000 (which is the total count of numbers going from 0-999). So lets say they just use alphas and numerals in there, that makes 62 different characters. The hash is generated using the user id and password put together. Lets say an average username and password are 8 characters, making the two combined 16 characters long. Now get out your calculator and raise 62 to the power of 16 and you get 47672401706823533450263330816 possible strings. Even if you can check a billion strings a second it will still take many many years to crack it. While you're waiting I suggest you take a statistics class.
However since this is a site that was created based around a television program I doubt that our attempts at gaining access would be frowned upon.

1b) I doubt this would be useful since most porn sites use more sophisticated encryption methods. However if you check your PM there's a good link for ya.

2) Most of what I have learned is just by surfing and reading and reading and reading. The program that I'm using is called KMD5 which was a free download and is a pretty basic command-line style program to work out the combinations. I'm sure you can take classes for Internet Security or Network Administration and that would provide alot of knowledge in this area.

While you're waiting I suggest you take a statistics class.

OK....I get it, I get it. YES that is an astronomical number of combinations, YOU ARE RIGHT. However not all of the combinations will be tested. For instance if the combination "XA" yields a particular hash result that does not match the target then all combinations "XB" thru "XZ" will never result in a match so they will automatically be excluded and skipped for sake of wasted computations. Taking that into consideration, the total number of possible strings would be exponentially decreased. Plus I believe based on information that I've found regarding this site that I have one of the two usernames which cuts the total number of combinations in half.

Well to be fair, he's not "doing" much himself. He's just letting a program run, so what is is hurting except maybe some processor use in the background? Let him be if he thinks he can do something. I need nudes of Jenna Elfman!!!

If you haven't realized it yet, you're in the "Entertainment" thread, and this for the moment IS entertaining me. So what's the point of repeatedly telling me that it'll take years and that I should look into taking a statistics class? Are you familiar with programs that run these types of computations in the first place?

And yes, Moe, those nude pics better be smokin' after all this.
