Dan Brown in holy-hot-water over The Da Vinci Code

i read The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail years ago. i liked it, though the conclusions were flimsy they were presented well.
I never read the di vinci code because i thought it sounded a little too close to this book. and i guess now it is.

This has to be one of the most ridiculous lawsuits of all time:

They claim that Brown's book stole the following elements from their work:
- Jesus and Mary Magdalene were married and had a child together
- Secret societies such as the Priory of Sion preserved the secret of Christ's bloodline through the ages
- Leonardo da Vinci was a member of the Priory of Sion, and masterminded a series of codes and puzzles to protect their secrets from the Roman Catholic Church

Do these guys believe that their 1982 work of non-fiction is the first time these ideas were put to paper? If their "The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail" was supposed to be non-fiction, why wouldn't it be ok to borrow from it to merely set the background for a new work of fiction?

Dan Brown took theories, stories, and in some cases made up some of his own, and wove them into elements of very familiar stories & some very real history & created an amazing work of fiction. Now it seems like these guys are pissed because they couldn't make their telling of similar stories nearly as complete or compelling & want to be paid for just coming close. It's bullshit.

If this lawsuit can prevent the movie from coming out, I'll weep with joy.

If it somehow gets the book banned for all time, I'll blow everyone involved.

Twice.
