SCI FI Channel announced Jan. 12 that it will air the first season of
the BBC's hit SF series Doctor Who, starting in March. The 13 episodes,
starring Christopher Eccleston as the Doctor and Billie Piper as Rose
Tyler, will air as part of SCI FI Fridays at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Since the original announcement they have stated that the first two
episodes of the new season will air back-to-back on Friday March 17th
starting at 9pm.

If you can get past the campy-ness of the first few episodes I believe even old fans of the show will be pleasantly surprised.

So I guess this is Sci-Fi's stop-gap until S3 of Battlestar Galactica?

Cheap move... syndicate already-produced Sci-Fi with name value.

The Dr. Who from the 70's, maybe 80's - the one with the fro.... the ending of that show always freaked me out. The music and the spiral tunnel... it just felt like a bottomless pit.

so are they counting the 1996 doctor as a regeneration or just discounting it. if they do, that only gives us 2 or 3 more doctors.

Yes they do count Paul McGann from the 1996 movie as the 8th which makes Eccleston the 9th. I believe based on the history of the show there can be up to 13 or 14.

Highlight type below (contains spoiler):

-----------------------------------------

The actor, David Tennant, who is playing the 10th Doctor has mentioned in interviews that he would love to do multiple seasons in this role which is a great sign for the series as I understand he is a pretty popular actor over in the UK.

------------------------------------------

I'm looking forward to it. Tom Baker was my favorite Doctor; he was the 4th Doctor and played the Doctor for the longest--7 years.

The later Doctors had some real hotties as side-kicks/companions--especially Nicola Bryant who played Peri Brown along side the 5th and 6th Doctors.

Do an image search for her and you will not be disappointed.

Loved the Eccelston series of Dr Who and can't wait for Tennets thank the lord for Bittorrent. Also Billie Pipper is a total hottie folks. The funny thing is all the Dr Who fans over in the US pretty much have seen the series including Tennets Xmas episode.

Plus you can just go to Canada and pick up the DVDs also.
