My wife has an iPod, and teaches dance classes at various studios. She now wants to program playlists into her iPod for use in the individual classes. In a perfect world, she could do this and then run a cable from the ipod into a receiver to play the music. Unfortunately, many of the studios either use CD players that don't allow for external input or receivers that don't allow for easy access to the external inputs. The solution is to purchase a pair of speakers that she can acrry around in a bag to use when she wants to play music in a studio. She's looking for something that:

a. isn't terribly expensive

b. is easy to carry around

c. is powerful enough for sufficient amplification in a dance studio

If the speaker system needs to be plugged into a power outlet, that isn't a problem.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

I know I've seen a lot of those "Boombox Ports" for iPods, but I think they're all a couple hundred bucks for good ones, and I'm not sure how loud they get. I'd suggest going to an electronics store and actually putting your hands on a few to get a feel for them.

Actually, now that I think about it, you're probably better off just having her leave a boombox in her car, plug it in and use a tape adapter. 30-50 for a cheap Boombox with no fancy options and 10 bucks for the tape adapter. It won't look "Fancy" but it'll work. You may even have an old Boombox laying around you could use.

I'm not too sure on the size of a dance studio, but I like my Bose Companion 2 speakers. They are around a 100 bucks. I use them for my laptop and disc/am/fm player. You can look at them at Best Buy type of stores to get an idea about the sound or check specs on amazon.

Oh Jesus, I didn't even think of that. You might get away with 15 dollar computer speakers that plug in.

The Bose are very good but I agree that they prolly dont have the power for the needs of the room; I'd go with a boombox w/ the RCA/1/8"/whatever inputs ya need.

Oh yeah they're are also powered monitor speakers [monitor not as in computer, but for small home studios. They're boxy, but small, and loud, but then you're going into the couple hundred dollars plus section, and they may also lack for bass, which is what you're really going for, if it's loud but the bass is weak it sucks, I'd go to the nearest Best 6th Circuit Ave. Buy Electronics City Mart and go down the line of boomboxes and play some Vanilla Ice and crank them all up and see who wins the volume war.

Just get whatever Radio Raheem was carrying. It takes 20 D Energizers. Not C.

I agree with moe... purchase a boombox with sufficient power and an aux input. I wouldn't waste my time with the tape input, though.

Then if they don't have the cable that goes from 1/8" Stereo on the iPod to RCA or whatever is on boombox, take a quick spin over to Radio Shack.
