wow, i haven't been to a comic con since 1993. i used to work them. i made a chunk of change selling comics that i just turned around right back to buying other comics.
i didn't have a good system.

I'll admit, it can be really tough to "get your money's worth" just walking around. There is only so much shopping you can do. Otherwise you can go for autographs, but I've never been into that and the lines usually suck.

That leaves panels and special events. I don't know about NY, but the couple of cons I have been to have had some pretty good round tables and informative sessions. You don't have to stay in the panels the whole time, but if you intend to leave early it is best to sit near the back (just to be polite). Sometimes there are overlapping panels and you have to split your time, sometimes the speach is good but the questions suck, sometimes the whole thing is a write-off, etc.

A lot of cons also have gaming and movies. Magic, Pokemon, and other games. There may be horror, sci-fi, anime, MST3K, etc. movie marathons. Gaming and movies may have an added cost or need reservations. They also may have a screening area running movie previews, game previews, TV previews, etc. Usually those are free.

Don't know if that helps or not. I can try to give you more info if you want. I'd also suggest checking the event website for details.

not in the market to buy anything and thats how they look like a giant
flee market with specifit items but when i read the run downs of the
event it seams like they would be interesting

or even just something to do on a weekend

and don't people dress up i love seeing people in costume

im
still just unsure just wondering also if other people are going then we
can stick old ron and fez stickers on people dressed as storm troopers

I'll prolly be there! Panels are usually 1 - 1 1/2 hrs. long, not all day! A lotta times, the best fun is hangin' w/ peeps, just talkin', & there's a lotta interesting stories! There's usually a lotta parties when the con shuts down all the way thru til the next morning.

Funny this came up today - I was just eyeing the San Diego Comic Con, which is in July. 5 days of geekiness. Really the best of the best as far as these shows go, San Diego has managed to become some sort of mecca of entertainment launching, outside of comics. Movies, TV, video games. I had a friend go there a few years ago and loved it - he dropped a small fortune, but he said it was worth it to go at least once. Last year they claimed to have had 100,000 people show up!! Just nuts. I've heard it's a bit of sensory overload.

Bobo is right - the best part is the sense of community, especially if you have other friends who go to these things. Conventions, especially if they are out of town, can be like mini-family reunions. I dig 'em, even if I don't spend any money. At comic shows about the only thing I actively buy are those golden age E.C. horror comics (Tales from the Crypt, The Haunt of Fear, The Vault of Horror), and some assorted random stuff. Also they are good places to get bootleg DVDs.

One day I'd like to go to San Diego - until then, I'm content with my the little comic show they throw here every other month in Northern VA (VERY little), and the once a year joint in Baltimore, although I can't go this year because it's the same weekend as my oldest godson's wedding, and I've been asked to actually perform the ceremony!

This is supposed to be an East Coast answer to San Diego. I was
going to go, but I won't be in NY this weekend. This is going to
have lots of "big name" comic book people, as well as movie people
(Milla Jovovich was announced last week)
According to a lot of people who were coming into my store, a lot of
people were turned away. I heard from 2 guys that came down from
albany, waited on a 2 block line for a few hours were turned
away. They should have done it in the actual arena instead of the
small convention rooms.
stay on this line and gave us braclets ahour and a half later we get to
the front then are yelled at violently why the hell are you on line if
you have a braclet and im like the lady told me to

but that was worth it because i got a couple special events tickets

i also got into the show floor as soon as i went but some people i heard had to even wait for that

was
on the floor for like 2 and a half hours went to the special events
hall saw the end of kevin smith really why do people ask the same
gaywad questions everywhere how does he put up with it

then saw
Todd Mcfarlin talk and after that they said we could stay to see Milla
Jovich (who was stoned out of her mind but oh so adorable) after
that i got confused because i thought a movie was suposed to start so i
stayed and ended up watching trailers for some reason but then went out
side and waited for a movie to start and got interviewed by usa today
wich i don't know if they used my friend or I Quotes because they
havent updated the site on anything yet but i said my name was "Ron
Benninton" then i got to see Art School Confidential full long long day
didn't know they let you so close to the writers and artists even if
your just walking by they are like 2 feet away its nuts

and
big kev stinks on ice I didn't have any Change to donate to the comic
book defnece fund so he wouldnt let me have a couple Wow stickers

i wish i got to a couple panals but like i don't have any questions so i got to read everything that happend

it was a good time

i
don't know if id go again though unless i had a bigger plan of
something or there was to be a super more exclusive events more
movie screenings and more preview things i don't know

also im
so supirsed how you can jsut bring art and show it to people and get
feedback or jsut pitch your self as a artist thats amazing

soo
Reed Convetion people what ever the companys name you stink on ice i
should of saw this miss managment coming from how hard the online
registration was with me not being reciving a confirmation e-mail and
no way to see your code again

soo the lesson here is everyone
pre buy your tickets and don't stair and the girl in chainmail where
