nascar never impressed me.
I've been watching it since '87. Not as crazy about it these days, but I still try to catch the end of the races, at least.
It's not everyday you can watch cars drive in circles.

I NEVER got this fucking hayseed "sport". Sport my ass. Rednecks driving around in a circle is gay.

Boring shit. I think the only reason so many people watch it is they're waiting for another wreck. Do people HONESTLY sit with their pals and say things like "Man did you see that pass he made?!" or "That's the finest acceleration I've seen in years."? "Nice wheels maaaaan!"

Wee wee wee wee boring.

Here is what I don't get about this board- This guy was looking forward to the Daytona 500, and wanted to talk about it a bit- just like someone would be about the World Series or the Superbowl or the Academy Awards. Nearly every subsequent post is basically about how much NASCAR sucks. If thats your opinion, fine but shouldn't that be in a "NASCAR Sucks" thread or something? I wonder if this would have been the response if he had 1000 plus posts...
I like Nascar, and a great finish to the race, today.
If you think it's not a sport, sit in a 120 degree metal box in the sun for four hours and see how you can compete.

Curling is very popular in parts of the world. Doesn't make sliding rocks and sweeping any more of a sport.

I don't give a fuck what people say about NASCAR. I love it. It has been getting worse the past few years, though.
I'm a huge race fan but I can't get into oval racing. But I'm glad NASCAR did get popular in the US as being a fan of motor racing in any form years ago was somewhat rare here. By rare, I mean relative to other sports.

This year there will be an American F1 driver. The FIA (F1 sanctioning agency) is hoping that will increase F1 popularity in the US. Granted I think the biggest problem with F1 is the race times and locations, e.g. its hard to get psyced for the Malaysian Grand Prix which starts at 3:30am eastern time.

I've been a NASCAR fan for about 10 years now, but it seems every year I'm less and less interested. Yesterday was the first race I've caught in about a year. It doesn't appeal to me much anymore (maybe because of all the rule changes), but I'd still consider myself a fan

The big stables in NASCAR are Hendrick, Roush, Joe Gibbs, Richard Childress, and Evernham, forgive me if I'm missing any. Dale Earnhardt Inc and Bill Davis Racing are two of the smaller stables.

Jimmie Johnson's car is owned by Jeff Gordon as part of Hendrick Motorsports. Jeff Gordon is a very, very good driver on the NASCAR circuit. He was nearly unbeatable early in his career, but that has tailed off since then. He's won four championships. The problem is, Jeff's sexuality is constantly called into question, because of some accusations his ex-wife made during the divorce. Because of the... ahem... southern flavor of NASCAR, this effect is magnified.

Also, Jimmie Johnson's crew chief (think GM and coach of a team rolled into one) is Chad Knaus, who has been cited by NASCAR several times for cheating infractions, for small "innovations" (read: cheating) that gave Jimmie's car a slight illegal advantage over the rest of the field.

Knaus was busted for a slight "modification" after Jimmie's qualification time last weekend, and promptly ejected from Daytona. Because of this, he's looking at a four race suspension.

So combine the Jeff Gordon factor combined with the Chad Knaus shenanigans, plus the fact that Hendrick is very much a love them or hate them organization, and you can see why Death Metal Dad was so pissed off.

I'm no big fan but some times it gets me. When the race comes down to who is running on enough fumes to get the checker, it kicks ass. My family is from Watkins Glen and I have been to a couple races there. Not the best track to watch the whole race, but it is a fucking blast. The time trials are a blast. A couple-three hundred thou gathered in a town of a few thousand is a sight to see. Plus, my dad helped build the track with my uncle's family's company way back. I would like to get up there for some open wheeled racing some time.
