View Full Version : Are You A Pessimist Or An Optimist?
This is something brought up briefly on the show today. Ron was pointing out how Fez generally takes a dim view of the world and doesn't really see the good things that happen each and every day.
How about you? Do you generally dwell on the negative or the positive?
I'd have to classify myself as an eternal optimist. For some reason I have an unwavering faith and belief that mankind is basically good, and that all the "evil" we see in the world won't last or change anything permanently.
I am a complete pessimist.

<-- Pessimist

I need to make some changes though, because it seems to be effecting my health to think so negatively.

On an individual level, I'd say that people are good-natured and that life, in general, will work out. Taking humanity as a whole, however, I have a dim outlook on our future.
I'm an optimist... but I'm not happy about it.
Pessimistic in a postive sort of way.

I'm a realist. And by that I dont mean a pessimist who wont admit it.

I'm optimistic enough to look to seize opportunities where I find them, either professionally or personally. I look to help out with any cause I care about, to do my part to make things better wherever I'm able. But I'm also very aware of how selfish, stupid and (unintentionally/intentionally) cruel people can be. And I factor that in as I go on with my life. I'm rarely surprised by it.

I think pessimism and optimism are reactionary postures people take. Both only see half of the picture. I try to take it all in as rationally as possible.

Pessimistic Realist.

I"m a pessimist, but I really want to work to not be so negative.
I feel that is what is holding me back in life and is one of the reason
I am having self-esteem issues
I'm pretty surprised at how many of you consider yourselves to be pessimists or generally negative minded.
I'm glad at least Evilpete wants to try and change.
It may sound corny, but if you look at all the small joys and miracles that occur in everyday life it's almost impossible not to be optimistic.

know Mike, maybe it is an age thing. I recently turned 40
myself, and when I look at the things I have I can't believe how
fortunate I am. I've got a house with heat in the winter and AC
in the summer, a new car, a brand new computer, and I can always afford
enough food to fill my belly. I'm by no means a wealthy man, but
I'm probably living better than 90% of the people on this planet.

The

remember being blown away by Atari and the Commodore 64 when I was in

today's world it's incredible. I'm still in awe of the cell
phone, for Christ's sake.

Maybe it takes some time and

you meet every day and the family and friends that you have are what
makes this world such a spectacular place.
