Fuck. I hope Matsui's not hurt. <br />
Matsui's streak would have ended tommorow anyway, but it's pretty cheap that it had to end tonight simply because he got injured in the first inning. Ridiculous rule, if he had recorded an out a person who didn't get credit for playing in the game would have recorded an out. WTF?<br />
STURTZE?! My GOD no............<br />
<p>Matsui broke his wrist, he will need surgery tomorrow. I guess we won't see him until next year.</p><p>I hope Melky is ready to at least be a platoon player. I REALLY hope the front office doesn't panic and trade a good prospect for a mediocre stopgap. </p>

<p>Nah, you'll just see alot of Bernie. And until Sheff comes back, alot of Melky and Bubba. We'll live. </p><p>The Yanks will actually be better defensively with Bubba in Left. Matsui's been shaky there for the past few years. </p><p>Any word on how long a broken wrist takes to heal? Since the wrists are so involved in your swing, I'd bet a looong time. I'll guess 2 mos min. </p>

great night tonight for Wang. He looked so sharp, that's a very positive sign.
I have no problem with Bernie in the role he was supposed to be playing. Unfortunately this means he'll see more of the field, and with Torre managing it means he'll see much more of the field than he should be seeing, even considering the circumstances. The fact that Bernie's arm will be manning one of the corner outfield positions on a regular basis makes me shudder.

would anyone pull the trigger on Randy Johnson for Torii Hunter? I would, I know it still leaves us pitching holes but I'd do it just to see Hunter in pinstripes.

All they gotta do is keep winning series'. Another excellent starting pitching outting today, hopefully Randy falls in line tomorrow.

You know they just want to cut some salary and get younger and Johnson works on both fronts!! That and he fucking sucks out loud and is well over 40 years old. Johnson will end the year in NY unless they cover 90% of his salary and package him with Duncan, Cano and or more.</p>

And it's funny how I know if the Yanks won just by how active this thread is. You fair weather bitches! Someone's hurt, who we gonna sign now! Yah, that's why the league sucks. They cover ever mistake, injury and more. I can't wait for George's HA and then they'll lose their power over Selig and we'll finally have our cap in one form or another. Please George, die! And not from cancer bc I couldn't stand another yanker title.

<p>Best story I heard today. Sturtze walks into the dugout after yet another miserable, totally ineffective outing and Torre says to him "You have a stiff shoulder, you're going on the 15 day DL". </p><p>I thought it was odd when the announced Sturtze was going on the DL immediately after the game. Usually, they'll wait a few days to get a doctor with some medical facilities to confirm or make a diagnosis. </p><p>Also, Sturtze was throwing 94-95 MPH. There's nothing wrong with his arm. Torre's just as fed up with him as most Yankee fans are, though probably for different reasons. <br /></p>
As soon as Dotel is back and they are sure he's healthy and effective, Sturtze is lucky if they send ii they send him to the minors.<br />

<p>Cashman said on the radio this week that he wont rush to fill the outfield, and I believe him, as long as they're playing well (BTW-Melky is hitting .444 so far, and doesn't look overmatched against good pitchers like Zito). If they hit the skids, expect a deal. </p><p>He also said that they'll have an excess of pitching when Pavano and Dotel join the team, which is true. If those two come back healthy, they'll be a starter and reliever that will either have to go to AAA or get dealt. The only reliever they have who <em>might </em>have options is Proctor, and the way he's pitching, he's going nowhere. So they might <u>have </u>to make a deal. <br /></p><p>Small and Wang may have options as well, but Wang is going nowhere (Torre loves him) and Small is a bit player. The most obvious guys to deal look like Jaret Wright, Small, and if anyone wants him, Strurtze. A team thats strapped for starters might want to give Wright and/or Small a job, but in Wrights case, I'm sure the Yanks would eat some cash. He's owed 7 mil this year and next. <br /></p>

So I wouldn't include him in the "suspect" category at this point. </p><p>Plus these are the guys that always come up in Yankee trade talks. They keep quiet about the guys they really like. Wisely, the Yankees will make pitching their priority. And because they
understand they'll likely run second to Houston in the Roger Clemens

with hard-throwing Double-A pitcher Philip Hughes) on outfielders,
they're better off saving them for the D-Train, who most baseball
people expect to be traded ... eventually.</p><div>"To shoot our bullets for a bat doesn't make sense," general manager

<p>Sorry BDC, there's a difference between no interest and past injuries scaring someone away. Wang has a very bad injury past, torn labrum (twice now), and that's the reason people choose other players via trades. Don't recreate history, teams simply didn't want to take the chance on him. And let's not act like he's the second coming. He's a 3rd starter at best when healthy and on, and I'll bet he goes on the DL bc of his shoulder by July or August. His arm doesn't have that many innings in it per year.</p>

And the Willis move will be contested by almost every playoff team in the picture. Your "music" is more like a pipe dream with the likes of your prospects. The yankee brass doesn't hide prospects, they trade them and have limited choices on who to fill spots when needed. You may think a soft hitting second baseman is what a lot of teams want, but I doubt he'd have the numbers he does on any other team. He's surrounded by great bats so he see great pitches.

Do you really think he'll continue to hit like that when on a lesser team with a lesser lineup? Not to mention a 2 bagger isn't exactly the hardest position to fill, or even those stats. So I'd pass on Cano for the likes of Willis unless they add a whole lot more. Cano will fade away if traded. And yes he's light hitting bc he only has two down the line homeruns this year one at Yankee Stadium where I could hit one too batting lefty. His slugging % is in the bottom half, middle to be fair, of the league even though he sees great pitches. Sorry, I disagree bigtime!

Not enough to be the centerpiece of a trade for someone like Willis, but he's ahuge trading chip IF they wanted to trade him, which they don't. And he's a line drive hitter, and not a dead pull hitter, which negates the advantages of Yankee Stadium. He's not a power hitter anyway, and has consistently hit better on the road. In fact, the smaller field in Yankee Stadium probably works against him, giving defenders less field to defend in right field. In more spacious fields he can more easily stroke doubles into the gap and down the line. All you have to do is look at him bat to see his potential, he has a great swing. His only weakness is that he doesn't draw walks, although he doesn't strikeout much, and doesn't go after bad pitches, and has shwon better plate judgement this season.</p><p>But then again, not all 2B can manage a .192 BA. </p>

In fact, the smaller field in Yankee Stadium probably works against him, giving defenders less field to defend in right field. In more spacious fields he can more easily stroke doubles into the gap and down the line. All you have to do is look at him bat to see his potential, he has a great swing. His only weakness is that he doesn't draw walks, although he doesn't strikeout much, and doesn't go after bad pitches, and has shwon better plate judgement this season.</font></font><font color="#000080"><font size="2"> <p><font style="background-color: #ffff00">But then again, not all 2B can manage a .192 BA.</font> </p></font></font> <p>So I guess this means I said somewhere that Hill is great trade bait? Idiotic point at best as it isn't even on topic at all. This kid has played three different positions, all very well, and actually hit pretty well last year. His average is awful right now, but his range factor is 5.16 vs. Cano's 4.99. And even with the horrible avg, his 8 rbis is only 4 behind the "hard hitting" Cano! By the end of the year Hill will have more rbis then Cano easy. Also, his avg will be at least up 50 or so points. Right now they've stated the Jays are focused on his fielding and he knows it. With Russ Adams throwing the ball all over the field, they need some stability in the center of the infield most importantly. And the fact that he's been involved in 34 dps vs. Cano's 17 I feel were looking at a kid who's fielding pretty damn well. Oh and Cano has way more weaknesses then his ability to draw walks. At least he's smart enough to understand that pitchers are going to go after him and throw strikes. It seems you aren't. Other then that, you make some good points and at least realize his value a little more. </p>

As for the Jays potential in this game, who knows. First off Willis is familar with Brad Arnsberg, yet I'm not sure of their relationship. He was friends with AJ as well. Also, JP has plenty of money to spend if needed. I believe it's around 25 million more if the team is in the running later on as directed by the knew ownership. And judging by the way their hanging strong right now even with a ton of pitching injuries I believe he'll have that option, especially for a lefty like Willis. So Riccardi is far from "shooting his wad". Yet my main concern is getting our current rotation in order first. Once we get Halladay, Lilly, Chaucin, Burnett and Towers/Jansen going steady, the Jays will be real tough to take down. Hell, even with this rotation trouble, they haven't lost a series since the Yanks and only 3 all year (one other series loss to the WS champs as well). I'm sure this will run right into most Yankee fans assumptions and hatred towards Pavano, but maybe he was trying to pich through it?<br />
I hope a line drive collides with Randy's knee and ends his career. Pavano lobbing pithces with his non-throwing arm from his hospital bed after his surgery while still half groggy from anesthesia would be more effective than this.<br />

When something is inflamed, it's that way for a bad reason. When one has patellar tendonitis, most people can't even bend their knee, ask Snoogans. If Pavano pushed the issue the injury would surely have gotten worse and possibly progressed to one of your precious tears. </p>
I should also mention that Pavano WAS pitching hurt for the majority of his starts last season, and I think we all remember how good he was in his first few starts and how bad he was up until he went on the DL. I think it was good that he didn't risk a serious injury pushing it just so he could put up mediocre and horrible starts. Although, he's missed all this time anyway. <img border="0" src="http://www.ronfez.net/messageboard/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/dry.gif" /><br />

<p>As much as I'd like to credit the Yanks for a great victory,
the fact of the matter is that game was BLOWN by the Mets more than won
by the Yanks. If one Yank deserves credit, its Melky Cabrera. His long
at bat seemed to wear out Wagner (who just pitched last night) and
Wagner went on to walk STINETT of all people on 4 pitches, and hit
Bernie. </p><p>Good job by Melky, who I really like so far, despite
his adventures in the OF (He's a natural CF, which is easier to play
than the corners). I think he could be a star with the bat and his arm
in the OF. If he develops some power as he matures, he could be a
terrific player for years to come, hopefully with the Yanks. And dont
forget that Bernie was an adventure in the OF his first <strong>few</strong> years with the Yanks in the early 90s. <br />

why sign another good infielder? we have a few already in the minors and a couple few on the bench. could a soriano deal be in the works and the yanks are looking to stock up on prospects? if halsey was on the market in the off season why didnt we make a move on the guy? he cant be that bad really?

A 10-day, nine-game road trip that started in Tampa, FL (won series 2-1), then moved to Anaheim (won series 2-1), and finished in Colorado (0-3). 4-5 trip, could have been much worse, but they sure dropped the ball in Colorado.

<p>No chatter in the Yankee thread equals another loss. Seriously, I check here first and can postulate that the Yanks were getting spanked before I even checked the actual scores! And I guess the Brewers would be the closest? Good point on the rivalry, as I say we don't count the last three versus the Rockies since they shouldn't have played them!! Ha!</p>

Nah, not soft, I just respect a great round. The best of my life happened two years ago at Emerson when I took my girlfriend out in an effort to teach her. For some reason I just hit the shit out of the ball all day and then focused on her game and helping her. As it turned out, I never broke 40 yet, but did put two of them up back to back and ended up with a fucking 80! I hope to put a great round together again, but right now I'm stuck in the low 90's. I had a chance to go sub forty on the front and the back needing only pars to do so. Obviously I got bogies on both and just missed my first true sub forty round (on a real course bc I don't count the Meadows or Byrne) and breaking 80. I'm not complaining, but it did sting to come sooo close only to just miss. Dam putting!

<p>That's kinda lofty, don't you think, Dave? At this rate, he'll get 3000 by he's 37, which means he'd have to keep up the same rate until he's 42. I don't think that can happen...</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>It's a good point, Matty, but Pete Rose broke the record at 44. And 42 now, in baseball, is like being in the late thirties <em>if</em> you're a great player. All in all, I like eating pretzels.</p>

The same shit happened last week against the Mets when Wright booted a soft ground ball and then threw it away. Jeter still would have been out by two steps. Also, he got credit for at least two hits where Russ Adams and Frasor should have gotten errors. I'm sure they were happy with the ruling, but it's getting rediculous. This isn't Yankee hate here, just a point that it seems certain players (not only Jeter) seem to be getting actual rulings in their favor of late. Like Jordan traveling in the NBA, or Rocket pitching to a much bigger strike zone. I hate this most of all bc they have time to make their decisions and still fuck it up.

too fucking bad, it was scored a hit. stop the hating. Jeter is a great fucking player, he is a great yankee. Get over it.
I too would love to see him play for that many more years. but with the $$$ he is earning now, would he still want that daily grind of playing?
did anyone see his sister? NICE. Hey, Earl, go get her she looks perfect.

So bc you think he's a great yankee/hitter you basically think we as fans should just "get over" bad calls. Fuck that! I don't care if it Ted Williams, Willie Mays or Babe himself, a hit is a hit and an error is a fucking error. Rule them correctly as the game isn't that hard to evaluate. Factor in that he'll probably be in the race for the batting title as ESD predicted, I know of an unbelievable 5 errors so far ruled hits. Nucking futs! Enough with the hometown scoring.

<p>Well coming back from the game today (Half-soaked!), I thought it was an error and it felt very anti-climatic that it was ruled a hit instead of an error. </p><p>I'm just annoyed that the Yanks lost to the fucking Royals! And I feared this might have happened with the Royals losing streak coming to the Bronx and they might have feeled they were due for a win.</p><p>Well they better win the next two games before they go to Detroit.</p>

<p>Yeah, you can lose to anyone in the bigs, but you do expect to sweep the Royals if you're the Yanks. </p><p>I was impressed that they didn't just give away their AB's after the 2 hour rain delay like most teams would. </p><p>And Farnworth has been falling in love with the slider lately, and he needs to cut it out. THat's a great pitch when its mixed in with the 100MPH fastballs. When its the main pitch, if you miss your spots it gets killed which is what happened last night. </p>

Another solid outing by Wright. Bullpen had trouble holding it, but like Torre's been saying he's been using them too much. I saw a stat in todays Times that Proctor has thrown more pitches than any reliever in baseball. They need to get some legnth out of their starters, but don't look for that tomorrow with the Big Useless going. <br />

<p>That was the best I've seen Mussina pitched in awhile. And I'm also happy that Mussina told Torre to sit down. Fuck man, this game is like a manifestation of nightmares of every recent injury. First, with Rivera still out and Proctor pitching two innings last night (thanks again Joe) Torre has to try to get two innings out of Villone, and when he can't get that has to bring in Erickson in a tough situation, who hits a guy, but then gets a pop out, but since all the offense is out of the lineup Bernie has to play RF and he turns that pop out into a double. So now Farnsworth has to come in and get 5 outs. He then gets a ground ball to third that at worst should be an out at home and at best should be an inning ending double play but Cairo, filling in for A-Rod at third, bobbles and can only get an out at first. And the game isn't even over yet. I'm sure when the O's win it will also be potentially attributable to an injury.<br />

<p>Well the O's didn't win. And Farnsworth pretty much did his job. (For now!) With all the injuries and pitching problems, the Yanks are still winning. </p><p>So I'm pleased that the young players and role players are coming through for the Yanks so far in the lineup. Melky been great so far.</p>

i feel that wat too, but that is not the team that we have. we have a team of aging superstars that are going to be plague with injuries. i would love if we had a year or two of rebuilding and bring up some guys within the organization. but with the huge salary that the team has, it will not happen. the organization is paying beyond top dollar compared to what it is putting out on the field.

there will be no rebuilding as long as george is running the
team. he wont stand for cabrera starting next season in right or
left unless he just tears it up this year. the yanks will have
another 34 year old all star coming to the team via free agency.

Come on Hbox, easy on Cairo as it wasn't even an error which probably would have been the result if Arod was in there. Sorry, the guy has a lot, 9 errors versus 11 double plays over 52 games. So be glad he wasn't in or the O's would have scored two as the ball found the outfield grass.

<p>Another good outing by Johnson, despite the line. He had a rough first (which was mostly one bad pitch) and completely shut the O's down after that. Looked great again, just needs to figure out how to start off better. Though alot of great veteran pitchers were like that. If you didn't get them early, you were done. Deserved the win, but Proctor let up 2 and ending up getting it.Proctor was also shaky at first, but looked much better after that, and his velocity went up the longer he pitched. <br /></p><p>I cant believe they've won with the mash unit they're playing right now, though the "Baby Bombers" are all hitting and fielding well. Giambi and A-Rod should be back today, Mo tomorrow. I love the way this team is playing right now. Different hero each day, ABC baseball, pitching and fielding well. Trouble has been in the bullpen, but that only shows how big Mo is to this team. </p>

Just what the Sawx need, to see more of Mo & get more comfortable against him. Pisses me off. Let him throw a simulated inning or two in a bullpen session.
