Lately I've been thinking of taking money I've been saving and putting into an online bank with higher interest such as ING Direct, or HSBC, Emigrant, etc. Does anyone here use these banks, or have any recommonedations on one over another.

Good luck, though

Well, I guess what I mean is, higher interest rate online banks like the ones I mentioned. A regular bank might yield 0.5%-1.5% interest, though these banks generally give you better interest rates because they don't have physical banks, tellers, etc so they have no fees and high interest.

I grabbed these interest numbers from another site, because they show how much more interest you get over a regular bank. As well as how much they've gone up over the past year.

HSBCdirect Online Savings:
01/30/06 - 04/30/06: 4.80%
12/15/05: 4.25%
11/04/05: 4.00%
09/01/05: 3.75%
08/11/05: 3.50%
07/07/05: 3.25%
03/25/05: 2.88%

ING Direct:
01/19/06 - 04/15/06: 4.75%
12/31/05: 3.80%
Dec 2005 : 3.71%
Nov 2005 : 3.48%
Oct 2005 : 3.40%
Sep 2005 : 3.27%
Jul 2005 : 3.05%
Jun 2005 : 3.00%
May 2005 : ?????
Apr 2005 : 2.98%
Mar 2005 : 2.53%
Feb 2005 : 2.35%
Jan 2005 : 2.35%

Emigrant Direct:
01/26/06: 4.25%
09/20/05: 4.00%
07/22/05: 3.50%
03/14/05: 3.25%
01/05/05: 3.00%

Don't get me wrong, my regular bank is online and I regularly do banking through them, though I'm looking more for a higher interest savings account bank that is online that I can make electronic deposits into for long term savings.

I have been using ING Direct for years now, um, for maybe 6 or something like that.

A friend of mine using Emegrant Direct for past few years.

Both of us have no complaints with the services. Both are FDIC insured so there is no reason not to use them. Only reason I have ING over Emegrant is because I started my ING account years before I even found out about Emegrant and their higher interest rates, I am just too lazy to switch. I have ING set up to take $50 out of my checking every other week as sort of a trickle savings plan. They have been great so far and the customer service has always answered all of my questions.

Plus I like orange and there is lots of that on their site.

Need to know anything else?
