Yes things from Berkeley would include the Unix Fork BSD which is grandfather of FreeBSD and OpenBSD. Also many programs are not under the famous GPL but under the least restrictive license known as BSD. And dont forget sendmail ... lotsa good code came from there so only brand the crazies there is a quite sane minority of Hoos in Whoville you just cant hear their voices. Also lotsa good papers have originated there.

I said they were known for it, didn't invent it. UNIX was created by AT&T, Berkely created the first variation. Trust me, I once studied under one of the Berkley UNIX developers.
