the way fox mishandles airing shows, it's amazing it has lasted as a network this long

I like how they tied up every plot line in that last episode.&nbsp; And the meta-ending with Maebe meeting with Ron Howard was great.&nbsp; I love that show.&nbsp; It's too bad it's ending (for now).<br />

curtoid
02-13-2006, 10:24 AM
<p>So many great things in those last four episodes - the tyinig up of most of the story lines (still no real resolution about Oscar being Buster's father!), the sort of fulfilling of a joking promise about adding Justine Bateman as a love interest on the show, the inside jokes (George Michael telling his father he's been in love with his cousin for &quot;53 weeks&quot;!) the reference about the lack of details on televison shows (followed by visuals of people opening empty cabinats to just get the most random stuff), the return of &quot;Hello&quot; and the epilogue with Ron Howard - too damn brilliant for network television! Or American television!</p><p>If it never gets picked up by anyone, they wrapped it up perfectly - if it does, it put a nice ending on this era and a great set up for more stories. This will go down as a really great American sit-com, but really before it's time. It's like &quot;Twin Peaks,&quot; which somehow made it through a season +7 - years later you see the whole &quot;Peaks&quot; vibe getting copped by &quot;Northern Exposure,&quot; &quot;X-Files&quot; and anything remotely &quot;quirky&quot; with snappy writing. Hell, &quot;24&quot; owes itself to &quot;Murder One&quot; which certainly was helped by &quot;Peaks.&quot;</p><p>Years from now another show will become the biggest hit ever, and it will essentially be a rehash of what they accomplished on &quot;Arrested Development.&quot; </p><p><img height="400" src="http://us.tv1.yimg.com/tv.yahoo.com/images/he/photo/tv_pix/fox/arrested_development/_group_photos/alia_shawkat3.jpg" width="289" border="0" /></p><p>I am really going to miss that show and those characters and those actors. One less night of television to worry about, tho.</p>

Hey....actually rumors/news about the Arrested Development TV show!

Apparently Jason Bateman has reached out to Mitch Hurwitz about developing a movie of the Bluth movie after the end of the writers strike.

I too regret not seeing it when it originally aired, and am in the middle of watching season 2 right now. I've just decided it is impossible to judge whether a new show is worth my time or not, so I just wait till the first season or two airs and let Netflix be my savior.

I'm the same way. I don't want to waste my time investing in a new show and it turns out to be shit. There's aways something else to watch or do in the meantime. Bes tof all, when I jump on after the fact, that means there's at least a whole season's worth of episodes to watch in one go.

I hope that in a year's time you've come to your senses and realize that every actor on that show was brilliant! Can't imagine any of them being replaced!

But what else does he have lined up?

Seriously? He's the only one from the show getting high profile starring roles. His movies are succeeding and he has a rep as a bankable and likeable rising star.

If it sucks, it sucks, and there's a good chance this will suck. Maybe the "moment" of that show has just passed on. It was wrapped up pretty well and it would be pretty easy for the whole thing to seem forced. Plus, it succeeded as being an ongoing, 22-minute-a-week TV show, not a movie. That's a whole different beast.

He's not saying he won't do it...he just wants to see the script before he says "yes."

I actually like his movies. Superbad was funny as hell, and he was good in Juno, despite it being atroucious.

But he's quickly getting typecast as "16 yo, awkward kid".

I think I've figured out the TV movie scene.
They'll basically take 4 shows with an arch, and turn it into one giant episode.
I think if they get any script input from Ron Howard, that guy knows how to tell a story.

“If I have to call him up and say, ‘Get on set right now, young man,’ he’ll be there,” the comic said . “The movie is going to happen this year, and Michael Cera is on board. Trust me.”

I read the Tambor story this morning. I really hope this is the truth and I think that's probably pretty accurate. I'm pumped to see that they are going to bring this one to the head of the pack.

I just finished watching this masterpiece on DVD ... I am sorry I didnt see this when it was on - because it was AWESOME.

How do they cancel a show like this? I can only assume the cast was really expensive - but the rest of the costs had to be minimal.

Anyway - if you havent seen this - there is no better reason to have Netflix.

Cuz I made up about .1% of their viewership. Very lowly rated.

I said at the time I wasn't upset it was canceled because it never hit a creative dry patch and will forever be perfect in my mind. Usually, even the greatest things hang around too long.

I am cautiously optimistic about the movie for that reason.

I was working a 5-10 schedule when it was on. I tried to set my VCR to record it, and FOX would just show it on different nights of the week, without saying they were changing the schedule. It became so hard to find, by the third season, I had given up looking for it.

Man, that VCR shit makes me feel old.

Aaaaaaand, confirmation!!! (http://blastmagazine.com/the-magazine/entertainment/2009/02/cera-caves-full-cast-in-for-arrested-development-movie/)

Michael Cera, the final piece of the “Arrested Development” movie puzzle, has agreed to star in the film, E! Online reported yesterday.

I still think the whole holdout thing was a clever ruse to make Cera seem "hollywood" given his recent success.

Jason Bateman talks Arrested Development (http://www.collider.com/2009/09/22/jason-bateman-talks-hancock-2-arrested-development-and-reveals-what-he-got-as-wrap-gift-on-paul/)(and Hancock 2? Really?):

What’s up with “Arrested Development”?

It’s still being written and my guess would be we’ll do it sometime next year. My fingers are crossed.

So what’s your expectations?

I would assume it’s not going to be anything more than a long episode. I don’t think there’s any need to go further than that. I think it might be wrong to. Hopefully, people will be willing to pay money to see what will amount to be three or four new episodes all stuck together as one long one. I don’t know. Hopefully interest has not waned cause selfishly we all want to get back together and do it again. So hopefully there will be enough people to see it to break even.

David Cross was on The Adam Carolla Podcast a few weeks ago and he also confirmed that the players have agreed to do it, and that the script is being written. Other than that, had no details except to say that everybody involved "won't believe it until they're actually watching it on the big screen."

IFC Acquires ‘Arrested Development' From Twentieth Television

IFC has acquired the cable rights to all three seasons (53 episodes) of Twentieth Television's Arrested Development. The series garnered critical acclaim and a cult following on Fox from 2003-2006, but was canceled due to disappointing ratings.
Comcast owned cable network G4 was the first network to acquire the cable rights to the series in July 2006.

Arrested is the second major acquisition for IFC in October. The network picked up the complete series of Monty Python's Flying Circus earlier, to go along with its six-hour documentary about the legendary British comedy troupe.

"Arrested Development is one of the smartest and funniest shows of the last decade with a hilarious presentation of absurd family dysfunction," said Jennifer Caserta, executive VP/General Manager of IFC. "It's a perfect fit for IFC, which viewers recognize as an authority on what's new, next and relevant in television, film, music, gaming and online, and, more recently, comedy."

IFC will televise Arrested Development Sundays at 10 and 10:30 p.m. and Tuesdays at 9 p.m.

Maybe when she was playing the dying girl. But for a couple of years there she was gorgeous.
