year ago, mentioning Mariah Carey and the Grammy Awards in the same
breath might have drawn chuckles from industry insiders: The
multiplatinum songbird had been dumped by Virgin Records after the flop
of her 2001 album and film "Glitter." But the public hadn't counted
Carey out: Her debut Island Records release "The Emancipation of Mimi"
launched a string of huge hits and ranked as 2005's top-selling album.

singer-writer-producer Kanye West received a field-leading 10
nominations and won three Grammys last year for his bow "The College
Dropout," but he was eclipsed in the major categories by the late Ray
Charles. Despite potent sales and critical applause for his second
album, "Late Registration," the feisty and outspoken hip-hop auteur
could get stung again this year by Carey, whose career rebound might
pull votes from Recording Academy members.</p></td>

The Ascendant </p><p>John Legend, eight nominations<br />West
can claim a good deal of credit for the success of another top nominee:
John Legend's early-2005 debut "Get Lifted" was the first release on
West's custom imprint Getting Out Our Dreams. Protege Legend was the
breakout success story in the R&B world last year. He is a prime
candidate for best-new-artist honors, and "Get Lifted" dominates the
Grammys' R&B categories.</p></td>

The Rock Juggernauts</p><p>U2, five nominations<br />The
most prominent flier of the rock flag among this year's top nominees,
Irish superband U2 has reaped 16 Grammys during its career. Its
triple-platinum 2004 release "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb" was
released too late to qualify for last year's awards, but the group
brought home two statuettes from the 2005 ceremony for its inescapable
single "Vertigo." In another R&B-heavy field, this act shouldn't be
sold short.</p></td>

is no stranger to Grammy voters: Her Anaheim-bred band No Doubt has
been in business for nearly 20 years and has produced a string of
peppy, punky pop hits. But the doll-voiced vocalist made an impression
of her own with her late-2005 solo debut "Love. Angel. Music. Baby.,"
which includes the incessantly shoutable hit "Hollaback Girl."</p></td></tr></table><p> </p><p> </p><p><br /></p>

I guess I'm alone in this, but I think U2's last two albums have been atrocious, a very far cry from their prime. There are a couple tracks on Atomic Bomb that I like, but the whole All That You can't leave behind album is garbage, IMO.<br />

Normally she's the center of attention when she's out there, but the Black Eyed Peas got matched up with Jennifer Lover Hewitt. Someone who has an equally as good chest and much, much better looking than Fergie. Take a back seat honey! </p><p>I am looking forward to this season of the Sopranos though. I heard she is supposed to be playing a stripper in the Bada Bing, so I'm hoping she actually shows those bad boys off. </p>

The actual black guy in BEP doesn't even come off trying to act "black." They're the most vanilla "rap" act around, and they know it. It's how they make their dirty, dirty money. Maybe you're just confused with Fergie always trying to not act like a dude, which is what she is. </p><p>Does anyone have a clip of Madonna and the Gorillaz opening the show? I'm curious to see how they pulled that off.</p><p>And yeah, I don;t get people saying Mariah Carey is "fat," but I do not find her hot at all at this point. She's that weird oranage-y color that makes people look like they smell awful and her insanely fake tits look like she's hauling watermelons to a picnic under her arms half the time. Plus, I can't get beyond her whole crazy pop star schtick. She takes it to a new level of annoyingly nuts and pretentious, literally demanding red carpets when she shows up at a hotel and shit. Ech.</p>

And damn, I don't get the Madonna hate. She's looked rough at times in recent years, but she's in full on MILF-mode with this new album. That first video with her in the leotard was damn near porn...and the whole <em>Boogie Nights</em>-hair thing just makes her that much fuckable. I'd throw it in her twice and then advertise on the side of a bus.

<p>i'm not a fan, but i wasnt impressed with the gorillaz portion</p><p>I just love madonna. Although, I admit, I preferred her at her self-absorbed, Truth or Dare days rather than her holier than thou attitude and her on again-off again british accent. Yeah, she's pushing 50, and it's starting to show, but she STILL fucking looks GREAT. There are a couple of songs on the new album that blow, but it really is a great dance album. much better than her last 2 albums. And her last tour was phenomenal...can't wait for the confessions tour at Shea this year</p>

Yeah, no talking would be allowed, but looks-wise she's incredible. Pure MILF, all the way.
