Looks like Michaels will be following Madden to NBC.

From ABC News:

"Al Michaels appears headed to NBC after ESPN hired former quarterback Joe Theismann, Washington Post columnist Tony Kornheiser and Mike Tirico as its Monday night broadcast crew"

"Al was not comfortable and let us know he was not comfortable with our vision of where we are going," ESPN executive vice president John Skipper said after Wednesday's announcement. "Back in November he said it was the greatest job ever invented.
I have a feeling that putting Kornheiser and Theisman in the same booth is a bad move, but might lead to some of the best entertainment during a Monday Night Football broadcast since Cosell.

Tony doesn't hold back with his opinion...not on his ESPN show, not in his ESPN Magazine column, and from I understand not in his previous newspaper career. And I have never heard an announcer make more statements that are just incorrect as to how the game of football is played than Joe T during those Sunday night broadcasts. They may wind up killing each other.

Not liking it all that much. I like Kornheiser and Theismann isn't all that bad, but I've never thought a booth needs more than 2 people. 3 or more and it becomes a clusterfuck. Plus, now they have both Suzy Kolber and Michelle Tafoya on the sidelines. Frankly, I don't think you need anyone on the sidelines. What the hell do they really bring to the product besides some stupid little commentary or the oh so gripping questions for the coach at halftime?

I'll reserve full judgement until seeing them in action, but I'm not too thrilled about this. I liked it when I first heard it was going to be Al Michaels and Joe Theismann.

Theismann is unlistenable, and I find Kornheiser to be an even more smug and smarmy human being than Dennis Miller.

We all remember how well that turned out, right?

This is Kornheiser, for those that don't recognize the name -

At least Kornheiser knows sports, unlike Miller who's sole purpose in the booth was to talk about shit that no one in America has even heard of.

I didn't think it could get worse than the ESPN Sunday night crew, but I think they might have. Tirico is awful. His voice squeaks like a 13 year-old boy everytime something exciting happens. Theismann is an idiot, and his record from Sunday Night Football speaks volumes. With Kornheiser, I just don't know how it will work out, but I'm not optomistic.

"Al was not comfortable and let us know he was

*tony kornheiser currently does P.T.I. on espn and has or still does write for the washington post*

He still does "columnettes" for the Post...

I love Mr. Tony...he's great, although it is unfortunate he's going to leave local radio here in DC....he had one of the best sports radio shows around for actual content....he had no athletes spewing cliches, no dumb callers, and with his connections to pretty much every major regional sportswriter in the country it was a great source of info, and his semi-weekly phonecalls with Ryan and Feinstein were always good

I hope itll work out for him...

Kornheiser is an extremely knowledgeable man when it comes to sports, PTI is one of the few shows on TV that I actually care to watch. I can't wait to see him do Monday Nights, my only regret is they didn't ask Wilbon to go with him.

Maybe I am a bit prejudiced having read Mr. Tony K. in the Washington Post for years, and enjoying his articles most of the time, but he sounded stronger than I expected. It seemed almost at times he kinda pushed Joey T. to the side. Having to listen to Joey T. blow his own horn for years, this wasn't so bad either. As a lifelong Skins fan, I know he brought the first of Three Vince Lombardi Trophies to DC. (Believe me if you didnt know Joey T will remind you). He is such a blow hard he is hard to stomach sometimes. Mike Torico holds it together pretty well. After saying all of that, it sure isn't the MNF we grew up with. The NBC Sunday deal is MNF plus the village idiots Collinsworth and Andrea something ornother. Also I noticed the NBC show has a ton of musical "beds" and "swoosh" sound effects during the broadcast. Really overproduced.

It was heavenly.

I really like adding Jaws to the group... I watched about 14 of the MNF games last year and I thought 90% of the problem was that Joe Theisman didn't know what to say when Kornheiser would make a controversal statement... I thought Theisman left him out to dry an awful lot.

I never heard it, but from what I understand Tony Kornheiser's radio show was one of the greatest sports talk shows before he left for TV... I think giving him another year in the booth is smart. Jaws also adds an awful lot to the booth as he is a real X's and O's guy and will probably not be as shy as Theisman was to say something interesting.

If I was picking though, I would have loved to had Tommy Jackson in there somehow. He is the best on NFL Countdown...

His radio show WAS fantastic but he's added a radio hole in his comeback. It's on XM144 but I've only listened to a little bit...I can't take the hole.
