He was 95. <div /><br />Lewis, with his wife at his bedside, passed away Friday night, said Bernard White, program director at WBAI-FM, where the actor hosted a weekly radio program for years. <p>I ate at his restaurant in the village 4 or 5 times. It wasn't very big and he would sit on a stool at the door and greet you as you came in.&nbsp;He would go around to the tables and chat with you, take pictures and sign autographs.&nbsp; Very gracious.</p><p>Of course, all the while he would be yelling at the busboys and everybody else who worked there. The food was good too.</p><p>This guy just seemed to enjoy life.</p><p>R.I.P. you old bastard.</p>

i was flipping though the stations on columbus day, 1997 and i heard this faimiliar, cranky voice screaming the importance of john brown's and his uprising(s) ...
